HUMBER AND BLACK CREEK SEWAGE PUMPING

STATIONS FORCEMAIN REHAB - NOTICE OF FIELD
STUDIES
March 29, 2023

City of Vaughan

The Regional Municipality of York is rehabilitating the twin sewage forcemain and chambers between the Humber
Pump Station and Black Creek Pump Station, in the City of Vaughan. The rehabilitation work will extend the life of
the forcemain and chambers.

A forcemain is a pressurized sewer pipe powered by sewage pumping stations that moves wastewater through our
sewer system. The chambers provide safe and easy access to the sewage system.

Before the rehabilitation work begins, York Region needs to conduct multiple field studies. York Region has retained
the services of an engineering consultant (GHD Limited) to conduct the field studies.

When: The field studies will be conducted between spring 2023 and fall 2024

Field studies could include:

Topographical survey

Inspection of the forcemain and chambers

Geotechnical borehole drilling and monitoring well installation

Utility surveys and ground test pits

Inventory of the ground cover, fauna, shrubs and trees

What You Can Expect:

A field study can take up to five days to complete

There may be different field study crews requiring access to properties to conduct studies and collect readings at
various times

For geotechnical borehole drilling, a drill rig may be required, and a groundwater monitoring well may be
installed; advance notice if a monitoring well is required will be provided. It will be removed when the project is
complete.

All the ground test pits will be restored to their original condition and every effort will be made to minimize any
disturbance

There is no impact to water services

Thank you for your patience while we complete this vital work. As with all construction projects, some work may be
rescheduled due to weather or other conditions. Visit york.ca/waterconstruction for more information about water
and wastewater construction projects.
