I work in a repair facility for drones and am a devoted fan of Hakko soldering irons. My partner ordered one
of these and after using it I ordered one immediately. Google search firmware for this iron. A 3rd party
developer has a free firmware file that transforms this iron into the most advanced soldering tool I've ever
used. I literally cannot believe how well it holds up against a much more expensive Hakko without the bulk.
The iron has an accelerometer in it and goes to sleep when u put it down and instantly heats up when you
move it. Time to sleep, max temp, time to power down, boost mode and sensitivity to movement are all
available at the touch of a button. The display even flips automatically if you are right or left handed.
The included power supply is 19v but on 24v it heats up about 30% faster. With the firmware it can also be
power off lipo battery packs in the field.
I easily tinned 6awg high strand count wire with this and it was 3 feet long so the wire really dissipates
heat quickly. The iron didn't even need full power to perform the task.

Doesn't work.

1. First it does not come with a battery. Read the fine print.
2. Connected it to a battery, set temp. Battery got hot. Iron did not.
3. Says "Free Return". But even if you return item in like "brand new" you will be charged 20% restocking
fee.
(Note for 3: didn't open any packaging, charger, or anything else. Just removed iron, plugged it in. Put back
in
box "new" and was still charged 20%. So don't believe that only if it's used or parts missing you get
charged.

I plan on making this completely cordless by soldering a silicone insulated cable to a replacement terminal
for Makita batteries. That way I can use my Makita batteries to power the soldering iron when I don’t have
an outlet nearby.
Overall this is the greatest soldering iron I have used (even better than Weller).

I like the features and the feel of it so much I bought a second one to replace the $400 solder station I use
at home to work on electronics. Now I use it for everything except hot air rework.
Upgrading the firmware is a breeze and I highly recommend doing so. There are a lot of useful features in
the custom firmware.

When upgrading/customizing firmware: press "A" button while connecting USB, not
afterwards

I'm a computer guy, new to soldering, and made this noob mistake because I didn't carefully read
directions! You must press the button closest to the tip while plugging into a USB port on your PC (doesn't
matter if its Windows, Mac or Linux). Then my display showed DFU: 3.45, the computer showed a 2GB (or
1.96GB) drive with a random 7 character name. It's in FAT format (FAT12). It is a msdos partition rather
than GPT, but none of that is important to know. You can then transfer either the custom Ralim/TS100
mod from Github.com, or wait for the next upgrade from miniware.com.cn. If you try pressing 'a' button
after connecting, the display will show the Mini logo, and PS will show a CONFIG.TXT file and only a few
kilobytes space available, which will not be enough for any new firmware file. I had over a hour of
frustration because I did not read instructions carefully! Hopefully my advice will save other people the
same frustration.

- Items were loosely packed in the box. Not much in there that would be damaged, and nothing was in fact
damaged, but not cool. -1/4 star.
- Mine came with a 2' power supply cord. What? -1/2 star.
- The PSU uses an IEC C6/C6 "clover leaf" plug style, not commonly found in North America. In my huge
box of adapters and cords, I had twelve C14 cords, but only one C5 cord. -1/2 star.
The iron itself is very good, especially with the 24V supply. Very happy so far.

Low Temp when idle, Sleep time to power off if you get busy! All of these with custom settings. Quite
happy with this iron. I just did a 50 x 80 mm board with 0603, MSOP and SOIC parts and it was a breeze to
use.
I also appreciate that the case is NOT metal, as I soldered for hours, with the handle not heating up. Where,
I have heard and seen reviews of the TS80 heating up on the housing because it is metal. The other nice
advantage is the generic DC barrel connector that can be wired to a bench top power supply. Quite nice
and impressed.
Cannot be overstated, the custom third party IronOS firmware makes this iron a dream to work with. Also,
easy to undo if a problem arises.

Best thing is this heats up in seconds, absolutely fabulous - and the display tells you the temp in real-time
no messing around. Use this with flux, brass tip cleaner and Kester solder and you can't go wrong.

The one problem was that the first one I ordered did not show up. The seller refunded my money, and by
that time Amazon had them in-stock, so I purchased another and it showed up in a couple of days.
I have not had the chance to use it a lot, but it has worked perfectly the few times I have needed it.
