The feast is on January 9.

The dark image of Jesus kneeling on one knee and carrying a large wooden cross called the
“Black Nazarene” was brought by the first missionaries of Augustinian Recollect, which landed
in Manila in 1606 from Mexico.

It was first enshrined in the Church of St. John the Baptist in Luneta in 1606 and later moved to a
nearby church.

In 1767, it was transferred to Quiapo Church in St. John the Baptist Parish, also the Minor
Basilica of the Black Nazarene.

In 2006, the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the Black Nazarene in Manila was celebrated.

The Black Nazarene was brought to a procession from Luneta to Quiapo, commemorating its
transfer in 1868.

The traslacion is a way of imitating the Calvary Experience of Jesus for our salvation.

Thousands of devotees are joining the procession and wanting to touch the image of the Black
Nazarene.
