Abstract: In teaching and learning any languages, writing is essential to acquire a language in
written form. However, writing skill require a lot of knowledge and experience from the learners
to express their thoughts towards specialty. Therefore, FL learners fundamentally should have
knowledge in grammar, phonetics and vocabulary. Furthermore, we conducted research with the
adult learners who study at the faculty of oil and gas engineering on the issues concerning
increasing writing skills.
Keywords: English language, writing skills, oil and gas engineering.

Introduction. In acquisition of English language and being able to express ideas through
writing, a learner should be aware of fundamental knowledge in English such as grammar,
phonetics, and vocabulary. Writing is complicated task for learner to perform because a learner
must know how to deal with lexical difficulties he/she encounter. Some linguists (Biber, 2006;
Biber, Gray, & Poonpon, 2011) stated that academic written register, which is characterized by
its highly informational purpose, impersonal style and absence of narrative features, exhibits
salient patterns of language use and grammatical complexity that need to be acquired by students
when composing within an academic context. U. Maamuujav, C.B. Olsen, H.Chung (2021)
indicated that in the process of reviewing the language features of academic writing helps us
understand the highly-specialized grammatical structures and lexical features of academic
written discourse, a systematic examination of linguistic features of adolescent L2 writers’ texts
and identifying linguistic patterns observed in those texts can inform us about their linguistic
needs. Adult learners learning oil and gas engineering should be aware of special terminology in
order to write about that field of expertise. Kh. Abdinazarov revealed that in learning English for
oil and gas engineering, we come across with necessity of acquisition of terminology in this
sphere because technical language cannot be existed without studying terminology and their
application to industry. In fact, it is industrialized language, which requires more terminology to
get to make a speech and contribution in written context. Moreover, engineering students were
invited for the interview according to the issues. The participants were 40 from the oil and gas
faculty, Karshi Engineering-Economics institute, Karshi, Uzbekistan. The results were indicated
in the given diagram.
The importance of terminology in increasing writing skills
The terminology of any sphere is fundamental to study language skills and improve them, it
involves learners acquiring writing skills. If they are willing to write instructions or manuals for
engineering, they should be aware of some terminology (words) in the system of petroleum
engineering, such as
1) Drill bits can be covered with industrial diamonds to make them last longer.
Burg'ilash dolotalari uzoqroq ishlashi uchun sanoat olmos bilan qoplanishi mumkin.
2) Drilling mud is pumped through jets in the bit — this lubricates and cools it and, as the mud
is circulated, it also carries the pieces of drilled rock fragments to the surface.

Research Methods. The 40 adult students were invited to be interviewed according to
the issues concerning the importance of writing in ESP classes, faculty of oil and gas, Karshi
Engineering-Economics institute, Karshi, Uzbekistan. Each participant were asked accordingly.
The questionnaire was consisted of four questions. They are followings:
1.) Is the picture-based data important in writing skills?
2.) Is grammar essential in improving writing skill?
3.) Is phonetics vital in writing skill?
4.) Is terminology or vocabulary significant for writing purposes?
The result and Discussion

Conclusion. In learning and acquisition of language, especially, its skills, and fundamental
knowledge is very necessary for writing purposes. Without knowledge of grammar, terminology
or vocabulary, or phonetics, unable to write any kind of documents in engineering or application.
We carried out experiment which focused on interview having made with forty participants from
the faculty of oil and gas. As a result, it showed that knowledge of grammar and terminology or
vocabulary is very important for writing purposes.
