largest criminal gang has been captured.
Dairo Antonio Úsuga, better known as Otoniel, was seized after a joint operation
by the army, air force and police on Saturday.

his whereabouts, while the US placed a $5m bounty on his head.
President Iván Duque hailed Otoniel's capture in a televised video message.
"This is the biggest blow against drug trafficking in our country this century," he
said. "This blow is only comparable to the fall of Pablo Escobar in the 1990s."

disappearing from her family's tent, has been found alive and well. Police have arrested
a man and are investigating what exactly happened. "This is the outcome we were all
hoping for."
The girl was found in a locked house in her hometown of Carnarvon, Western Australia.
Officers had to force the door to gain entry and found Cleo in one of the rooms of the
house. That happened last night around 1 a.m.
"One of the officers picked up the girl and asked for her name," Police Commissioner
Col Blanch said of the discovery. "She replied with, 'My name is Cleo'".

Australia plans to continue selling coal for decades to come, despite concerns about
coal-fired emissions and climate change. Australian raw materials minister Keith Pitt told
the national news channel ABC that the country will not close coal mines and coal
plants.
More than forty countries pledged to abolish the use of coal at the COP26 climate
summit in Glasgow, Scotland. But major consumers such as China, the United States
and India have not signed, as has Australia. According to Pitt, Australian coal is of high
quality and in high demand. He expects demand to continue to rise over the next ten
years.
The coal sector is also very important to the Australian economy, according to Pitt.
According to him, that industry accounts for about 300,000 jobs in the country. Australia
has pledged to be carbon neutral by 2050.

In that country, 74 percent of the population has received at least one corona jab. 63
percent are fully vaccinated against the lung virus. In New Zealand it is 76 percent and
64 percent respectively. In our country, almost everyone who received a first shot has
also received the second: 75 percent have received one vaccination, 74 percent have
been fully vaccinated.
Initially, it will be easing for tourists destined for New South Wales and Victoria, the two
provinces where the mandatory quarantine for returning Australians and foreigners with
a residence permit has already been lifted. From the start of the pandemic, they had to
self-isolate in a hotel for 14 days when they returned to Australia, for which they had to
bear the costs themselves. Earlier this year, as an exception, a travel bubble was set up
with New Zealand for a few months.
Samenvatting:
Australië gaat de strenge inreisvoorwaarden vanaf zondagavond lokale tijd enigszins
versoepelen.
Zeeland namelijk opnieuw welkom. Ook gevaccineerde Australiërs mogen opnieuw
het vliegtuig naar het buitenland nemen.

Between April and September, a research station sitting on a high plateau in Antarctica,
registered an average temperature of minus 78 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 61 degrees
Celsius). That's the coldest temperature recorded since record keeping began in 1957,
and about 4.5 F (2.5 C) lower than the most recent 30-year average, according to The
Washington Post.
The previous record for the coldest winter was minus 77 F (minus 60.6 C) in 1976,
Stefano Di Battista, a journalist wrote on Twitter. The Post learned of this record through
Battista, but then confirmed the information with Richard Cullather, a research scientist
at NASA's Global Modeling and Assimilation Office.
The frigid winter is likely caused by a strong polar vortex in the stratosphere, the second
layer of the planet's atmosphere from Earth's surface, according to the Post. "Basically,
the winds in the polar stratosphere have been stronger than normal, which is associated
with shifting the jet stream toward the pole," Amy Butler, an atmospheric scientist at
NOAA, told the Post. "This keeps the cold air locked up over much of Antarctica.

recente 30-jarige gemiddelde, volgens The Washington Post

This is what Antarctica was like 75 million years ago during the Cretaceous period, an
era known by researchers as a “super fire world.” A paper published last month in Polar
Research by Flaviana Jorge de Lima of the Federal University of Pernambuco and other
scientists in Brazil proves that these conflagrations did not spare any continent, even
one that is today notorious for its dry, inhospitable climate and largely vegetation-free
landscape.
“It’s really interesting for us because now we’re showing that not only the Northern
Hemisphere was burning, but the Southern Hemisphere too,” he said. “It was global.”

A DARING eclipse chaser will be making her way to Antarctica later this month
pursuing the ultimate astronomical show.
Southend resident Mandie Adams has spent the last three decades adventuring
across the globe in pursuit of solar eclipses.
The 56-year-old is setting off on her latest trip on November 18, a daring voyage
to Antarctica to see the forthcoming total solar eclipse on December 4.
Mandie, one of the few women in a very male-dominated space, has seen eleven
solar eclipses taking her to an array of marvellous destinations such as
Zimbabwe, Chile, China, Easter Island, Norway and Indonesia – a passion
sparked by her first eclipse in Lizard Point, Cornwall, in 1999.

The World Needs to Quit Oil and Gas. Africa Has an Idea: Rich Countries First.
Hoping for a greener solution to its problem, Big Cabal in 2019 bought solar panels for
its two-story office building.
But the leap to solar didn’t go according to plan — and the reasons illuminate the big
challenges Africa faces from climate change. The region is rich in fossil fuels and is
eager to use them to fix its notoriously unreliable power grids. But to slow global
warming, nations must burn less oil and gas, not more. Meantime, Africa is heating up
much faster than the rest of the world.
For starters, Big Cabal found that the solar panels cost about three times more than the
generator in maintenance costs. And, even though the company’s finance manager,
Sophia Abu, scouted for the most powerful units the company could afford, they still
weren’t quite enough to run the air-conditioners. So while Big Cabal’s staff, who write
technology and culture news, sweltered in the summer heat, the AC units hummed
cheerfully and pushed out warm air.
