Lesson Title: Psychoanalysis of BOO;/You

Targeted Grade Level: 8th grade

Academic Subject: ELA

Lesson Goals:

Students will be able to analyze the character traits of “BOO” Radley in To kill a
mocking bird. Student will form positive and negative traits about the characters
development. Students will be able to identify positive and negative character traits
of themselves.

Lesson Objectives:

8.5(F) make inferences and use evidence to support understanding;

8.7(B) analyze how characters' motivations and behaviors influence events and
resolution of the conflict

Materials/Resources Needed:

 Copy of to kill a mocking bord by Harper Lee.


 Notebook
 Graphic organizer.

Lesson Components:
Phase one:

Students will take a deep dive into the character of Boo Radley. In the graphic
organizer they will take note of Boo Radleys appearance and his actions and what
other characters in the book have said about him. Students will turn and talk with
their partners to compare findings.

Phase two:
Students will use a graphic organizer to identify their own personal character traits,
appearance and what other say about them. Students will work independently on
how to take the negative thought or presumptions and turn them into positives.
Students will be resolving their own personal internal or outward conflicts. On their
graphic organizer they will jot down 3 negatives and the action plan on how to turn
the negatives into positives.

Evaluation:

Students will be assessed on the accuracy of the research they did on the character
Bo Radley. I am looking for proper citation of where they found their information.
Students will be assessed on how well thought out their action steps are to change
the negative perceptions of themselves into positives.
