Lesson Title: Book buddy

Targeted Grade Level: 8th grade

Academic Subject: ELA

Lesson Goals:

The goal of the lesson is to have good readers practice academic habits of
discussion. Good readers know how to use graphic organizers to analyze
characterization.

Lesson Objectives:

8.5G) evaluate details read to determine key ideas;

8.7(B) analyze how characters' motivations and behaviors influence events and
resolution of the conflict;

Materials/Resources Needed:

 Assigned pages
 Graphic organizer
 Docucam for modeling

Phase 1. Students will real and internalize the object to today. Teacher will set the
purpose and give students understanding of why the strategy is useful.

Phase 2. Teacher will model thinking steps to understanding how to identify

characters action and descriptions. Teacher models this think aloud. Students are
following along on their papers.

Phase 3. Students will practice assigned and modeled strategy with a partner.
Teacher will assign to different characters then the characters that were modeled in
phase 2. Teacher will actively monitor the students looking for procedural and
conceptual knowledge.

Phase 4. Teacher will make laps around the room, while taking note of student who
are practicing the model strategy and those that need to be retaught.

Phase 5: teacher will give a exit ticket over assigned strategy,

Evaluation:

Students will be evaluated on the exit. teacher is looking for the exact thinking
steps of the model for students to receive full credit.
