€ WORK AT HEIGHT SAFETY AWARENESS PETROCON ECCm: What is Work at Height? Working in any place where, if precautions are not taken, a person could fall and injure themselves. This includes places above, at or below ground level, Examples of work activities that are classified as working at height: + Working on a flat roof, scaffolds, erecting false work or formwork, working on a ladder, Working at ground level adjacent to an excavation, open holes, manlift basket / platform etc Work at height hazards These are acts, situations and conditions which have the potential to cause harm to anyone working at height; these hazards include: + Over-reaching + Failure of a fragile surface. + Unguarded holes in floors + Failure of the elevated work platform (Collapse, overturn, etc.) + Poor edge protection & unstable working platform + Items being poorly stored or secured. + Work in areas without guard rails or covers. + Untrained workers incorrectly using safety harness and lifelines + Falling object + xternal factors such as wind, Heat Stress, worker factors. safety tips to help mitigate the risk of working at height. + Avoid working at heights when possible. Administrative controls- work permits, Training, instruction Supervision are essential. Always use the rails and fall protection barriers. Be mindful of the fall distance. Never overload and overreach Determine the best anchor point to support you. Select the correct gear when working at heights (scaffold, lift, ladder) + Minimize fall distance and consequences by using the right type of equipment. Select quality PPE which is regularly inspected, REMEMBER € PETROCON ECC m WORK AT HEIGHT SAFETY AWARENESS + Any work over 1.8 meters without effective protections (individual or collective) is prohibited. + Hold the handrail on stairs and move carefully. + Always keep 3 points of contact when using vertical ladders. WHEN USING A HARNESS: Adjust it properly. A badly placed harness can cause serious injury in the event of a fall. Check that it is in good condition and that it has no visible damage. Make sure you anchor to a sturdy point of sufficient height to stop the fall before impact. Whenever possible, do it above the head and on the same vertical, to reduce the drop factor and the pendulum effect. Do not jump between different levels. Do not run. BEFORE CLIMBING A SCAFFOLD: Check that you have a green label with an effective date and follow all the indications reflected. Make sure the maximum scaffold load is adequate and respect it. Verify that the scaffold is not damaged and that it adapts to the needs of the work Keep the hatch of the access ladder closed except when you are climbing or going down the stairs. Any modification of the scaffolding by personnel outside the specialized company that installs and certifies it is strictly prohibited.
