Unit Rate Lab

Instructions:
Collect 4 ounces (oz) of lentils
Collect handout
Collect rulers and calculators

● LO: to measure the unit rate(rate of change: how many ounces does take to
pour out PER second(s) ) that it would take you to empty your bag of lentils
and
● to Predict the TOTAL TIME it would take you to pour out a 1lb bag of lentils
given that our data represents a linear function.

Data:

Hint: 100 lentils = 0.1 oz (time for 100 lentils?)

So #1000 lentils= 1oz
16 ounces(OZ) =1 lb

Questions to answer in notebook #2:

● What does our data represent?
● Graph your data on a X and Y axis
● How does the Number of lentils depend on time?
● What is your unit RATE and what does it represent?
● What is the relationship between time and the # of lentils.
● Predict/calculate how much time will it take us to empty a 1lb(16 ounces)
bag of lentils.
○ 1lb=16oz, 0.1oz=100 lentils, Use your unit RATE to calculate
Graph:

Label your axis: Independent and Dependent variable.

CHALLENGE:
● Create an equation/relationship that may
represent your LAB data.
