The first chapter of the story is set at the party in the Time Traveller’s house.

It is different from the other three because you canot move on Time the same way than on the other three dimensions.

The first-time machine was described to be as large as the size of a pocket clock.

6. What happened to the first Time Machine?


The first-time machine is sent to travel through time, and so it disappears.

Besides the Time Traveller, the narrator is also late for dinner.

8. How do the other characters know that the Time Traveller has been detained?
The other characters knew that the Time Traveller was detained, because he left a note stating that if he wasn’t there by seven that they should
start dinner without him.

9. What kind of food does the Time Traveller crave?


The Time Traveller craves meat.

The condition that the Time Traveller sets before telling his story is that he shouldn’t be misjudged or interrupted by anyone while he is
telling the story.

CHAPTERS 1 AND 2

1. expounding (1):

To present and explain an idea in a detailed way.

-Manuel was expounding a powerful argument about food.

2. recondite (1):

A subject that is little to non-known.

-Jorge said that this was a recondite matter.

3. paradox (1):

A statement that seems absurd, but when investigated it can prove to be true.

-We considered this to be a paradox.

4. fecundity (1):

The ability to create new ideas.

-We talked about his fecundity.

5. misconception (1):

A view that is wrong, thanks to it being based on false understanding.

-For some people, the use of vaccines is considered as a misconception.

6. pensive (2):

To be reflecting on a serious idea.

-Jorge became pensive, while we talked about particles.

7. provincial (3):

That it rules or is concerned about a certain piece of land, which is part of a country or
empire.

-Jorge was voted as the provincial mayor.

8. introspective (3):

Considering and reflecting on one's ideas and feelings.

-Carlos was in an introspective mood.

9. transitory (3):

That it isn’t permanent and lasts just a short time.

-Jorge was kicked out of the transitory shelter.

10. anachronism (6):

Something that doesn’t belong in its time, but rather in an appropriate time other than the
period in which it exists.

-The teacher made me state the definition of the word anachronism.

11. impartiality (10):

Equal treatment.

-The judge treats his cases with impartiality.

12. threshold (10):

A piece of something which forms the bottom of a doorway.

-Jorge oversaw the installation of the threshold.

13. ingenious (13):

Very clever.

-Jorge had some ingenious tricks.

Flesh of sheep.

-Jorge wanted to eat mutton.

15. cadger (15):

A person who will try to get something completely free, or without paying.

-That man was considered as a cadger.

16. Nebuchadnezzar (15):

A king from the past which protected.

-Manuel told us a tale about Nebuchadnezzar.

17. caricature (16):

A picture or representation of something or someone, which is comically exaggerated.

-Manuel decided to draw a caricature of himself.

18. verbatim (16):

Used exactly as the original.

-The teacher included the word verbatim in her worksheet, as it is related to the Time
Machine.

19. anecdotes (17):

A story that talks about a real incident, while grabbing people's attention.

-Manuel told us an anecdote about his personal life as a chef.

20. convulsively (17):

To do something in an irregular and agitated way.

- Convulsively is considered a synonym of spasmodic.
