PRINCIPLES OF MARKETIN

ACTIVITY 10
Answer the following:
1. What are the four marketing management functions?
• Research
• Preparation
• Execution
• Control
2. What are the responsibilities of marketing managers to consumers, society, the
company, and employees? Give two responsibilities for each stakeholder. a.
Consumer
• Create useful and valuable product
• Manage concerns and provide helpful solutions
b. Society
• Provide employment opportunities
• Aid in economic development and growth
c. Company and Employees
• Develop and manage brands
• Launch new products

3. Think of a scenario that shows authority and responsibility of handling people

especially in a business industry.

• The scenario will be this: first we must plan to determine an advanced program
that will contribute to establishing business in industry. And acquire people with
capabilities in terms of work and technical aspects.

In establishing my business, which is a coffee shop, I acquire people who are
capable of their work, such as managers, bakers, bartenders, cashiers, waiters
or waitresses, dishwashers, and maintenance. My manager is the one who will
assign them their duties. And our bakers have extensive experience baking a
wide range of foods. Altogether, the staff are working well. They are all very
cooperative and have good relations with each other. But when problems come,
the manager immediately takes action regarding the problems. As the owner, I
will direct actions to my manager and ask him/her about the plan or ideas. And
I’m the one who observes their daily operations. My manager’s task should be
to explain his decision and discuss his subordinates’ objections to his plans.
And he should encourage them to cooperate in planning or alternative solutions
to problems. In regards to our safety and sanitation, we always provide them
with safety measurements and proper guidelines. And also the area, we will
make sure that it is clean and pleasant. As a whole, I will encourage and
motivate them by saying that they are useful and part of the business and will
recognize their effectiveness as an employee.

4. Think Critically (Imagine you are already a professional) You are in charge of
hiring new employee to work in your area of responsibility, and one of your
friends from college needs a job. You think he is minimally qualified for the
position, but you feel that you could find a better qualified and more experienced
candidate if you kept looking. What will you do? What factors will influence your
decision? What will you tell to your friend?

• My decision will be based on his capabilities, but I will not jeopardize our
friendship in the name of business. Business and friendship are not the same
thing. Skills are important for the stability of the enterprise, so I will not acquire
him, but I will help him in other ways; perhaps he just needs an opportunity to
improve. I will advise him to do O.J.T, or On-the-Job Training, because this
method will assist or guide him in his field. In doing so, he may acquire or

the necessary skills, techniques, and attitudes for the job for which he might be
suitable. Maybe after that time, he may find a better job in other companies
where he can showcase his knowledge and attribute it to the said job.
