PART B (2x13 = 26 marks)

An air standard diesel cycle has a compression ratio of 18, and the heat
transferred to the working fluid per cycle is 1800 KJ/kg. At the beginning of the
compression stroke, the pressure is 1bar and the pressure is 1 bar and the
CO3 R 6. i) (13)
temperature is 300K. Calculate i) Pressure and temperature at each in the cycle,
ii) Thermal efficiency, iii) Mean effective pressure.

R 7. i) In an Otto cycle air at 17o and 1 bar is compressed adiabatically until the
CO3 (13)
pressure is 15 bar. Heat is added at constant volume until the pressure is 40 bar.
The swept volume is 0.711m3. Calculate the air standard efficiency, the
compression ratio and mean effective pressure.
PART C (1x14 = 14 marks)

CO 3 R 8. a) i. Derive an expression for the air standard efficiency of a Dual cycle. (14)
