FREEDOM- Free to be myself

“May we think freedom , not as the right to do as we please but as the opportunity to do what is
right”, says Peter Marshall. Today as Rabindra Nath Tagore has rightly said we live in a place “ where
the mind is without fear and the head is held high and where knowledge is free”. Article 19 of the
Indian constitution guarantees six freedoms in the nature of civil rights, which are available only
to citizens of India. These include

 the Freedom of speech and expression,

 Freedom of assembly without arms,
 Freedom of association
 Freedom of movement throughout the territory of our country,
 freedom to reside and settle in any part of the country of India and
 the freedom of religion

Although all of us have been enjoying all these freedom every minute, the right to freedom to reside
and settle in any part of the country has helped me and my family a lot. I was born in Tamil Nadu ,
however I live in Maharashtra. I feel like living in my home state and I never have had a reason to feel
that I am in another state. I have never been treated differently by friends or anyone around. I think
without this freedom I wouldn’t be in this place which gives me an option to learn different varied
arts from people across different states. My music teacher is from Kerala, my mridangam sir is from
Tamil Nadu, my badminton coach is from Maharashtra, the guru from whom I learn Vedas is from
Andhra Pradesh and my swimming teacher is from Goa. Just this, is a simple example of how this
freedom has helped people across different states to meet , share and propagate the knowledge.
Also, “Cultural Rights” and Right to freedom of religion has also helped me follow my culture without
any fear unlike other countries. It is also contributing to make India a very diversified country. I think
you will have more reasons to agree with me.

Essay: India's Spiritual Symphony - Unveiling Inner Freedom

In the enchanting realm of India, a spiritual symphony resonates through the ages,

unveiling the depths of inner freedom. The land where sages once wandered,

seeking the secrets of existence, continues to nurture a profound quest for spiritual

enlightenment. India's ancient wisdom beckons souls to embark on an inward

journey, liberating them from the mundane chains of material life.

The diverse spiritual tapestry of India weaves together numerous paths to

transcendence. From the serene banks of the Ganges to the majestic peaks of the

Himalayas, seekers explore the teachings of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and

more. The rhythmic chants in ashrams, the aroma of incense in temples, and the

stillness of meditation halls envelop the seeker in an embrace of serenity.

Beyond rituals and customs, spiritual freedom in India is about self-realization and

unity with the universe. It is a dance of consciousness, transcending the ego and

embracing the oneness of all creation. The Gita's teachings guide one to perform

their duties without attachment, while the Buddha's wisdom leads to the middle path,

avoiding extremes.

India's spiritual freedom is not confined to a select few but beckons all who seek

solace and purpose. The transformational power of yoga attracts the curious from

distant shores, finding physical, mental, and spiritual rejuvenation in its poses and

breaths. The pursuit of inner freedom permeates every aspect of life, from art and

literature to daily routines.

As the world races towards material progress, India reminds us to look inward, to

discover the treasure trove of peace and joy within. The spiritual symphony urges us

to reevaluate our pursuits, to seek contentment beyond possessions and embrace

compassion for all living beings. For in the depths of inner freedom, lies the key to

harmonious existence.

Essay: Kaleidoscope of Cultures - Celebrating India's Cultural Freedom

India, a kaleidoscope of cultures, boasts a vibrant canvas of traditions, festivals, and

arts, where the essence of cultural freedom thrives. From the snow-capped peaks of
the north to the sun-kissed beaches of the south, the nation embraces an eclectic

diversity that paints the very soul of its people.

Stepping into India feels like entering a grand carnival of colors, sounds, and tastes.

The cacophony of celebrations envelops you, as each region rejoices in its unique

festivals. The rhythm of dhol drums during Baisakhi, the grace of Kathak dancers

during Diwali, and the playful spirit of Holi's colored powders create a spectacle of

joy and unity.

Beyond the grand festivities, India's cultural freedom finds expression in its myriad

art forms. From the intricate brush strokes of Madhubani paintings to the soul-stirring

melodies of classical music, each form narrates a tale of heritage and creativity.

Traditional crafts like Banarasi silk weaving and Rajasthani pottery continue to thrive,

bridging the gap between generations.

Languages form the cultural threads that bind India together. Over 1,600 languages

spoken across the nation paint a vibrant linguistic canvas. Each language, a poetic

reflection of its region's history and traditions, embraces the freedom to flourish and

express.

India's cultural freedom not only celebrates its past but embraces the present. Fusion

art forms, contemporary literature, and emerging music genres blend ancient wisdom

with modern influences. The nation's youth proudly carry forward their heritage while

embracing a global outlook.

Amidst the celebration of cultural freedom, India also learns from its past, promoting

inclusivity and harmony. The nation strives to preserve fading art forms, languages,

and traditions, recognizing their intrinsic value in the tapestry of its identity.

As the world becomes a global village, India's cultural freedom remains a guiding

light. It reminds us to cherish our unique roots, to appreciate the diversity that colors

our world, and to celebrate the freedom of expression in all its vibrant forms.

THE SIX FREEDOM EXPRESSIONS OF INDIA
As we all know that India gained its independence on 15th
August, 1947. The constituent assembly of India was successful in
framing a new constitution on 26th January which is celebrated as
republic day every year. The constitution also gives everyone the
fundamental rights which they should enjoy. India is a sovereign
country, so its citizens have the freedom to enjoy certain freedom
expressions. The six expressions of freedom are FREEDOM OF
SPEECH AND EXPRESSION, FREEDOM TO
ASSEMBLE, FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATIONS,
FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT, FREEDOM OF
RESIDENCE and FREEDOM OF PROFESSION. They
are mentioned in the ARTICLE 19 of the constitution.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH is important because a

democracy can only work if the people can express their opinions
about the government and criticize if needed. The freedom of press is
also a major factor in freedom of speech and expression. Liberal
democracies in the West have a wide interpretation of freedom of
speech and expression. We need to protect the freedom of speech and
expression because it discovers the truth by open discussions. It also
helps to express beliefs and to take part in democracy. FREEDOM
TO ASSEMBLE is often used in the context of the right to protest
while in the constitution of the United States of America, freedom to
assemble is interpreted to freedom to assemble peacefully as well as
freedom to form an association. All citizens have the right to assemble
peacefully. This right is subject to reasonable restrictions in the interest
of the sovereignty and integrity of India and public order. The right to
peacefully assemble comprises the right to freely choose the location
and the timing of the assembly, public streets and roads. The right to
assemble online must also be fully guaranteed.
FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION implies that every
individual has the right to organize, participate and establish an
association. Freedom of associations and unions includes the right to
establish businesses, societies, trade unions, clubs, and enterprises
among other things. The freedom to form an association also includes
the right to form or not form, to join or not join an association.
FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT means a citizen can move
freely within the country. It forms an important aspect of the
Constitution’s Fundamental Rights. An Indian citizen is free to travel a
round the country, as well as the ability to leave any country and return
to one where you are a citizen.
FREEDOM OF RESIDENCE means the citizens of India
have the right to reside in any part of the country. Although restrictions
can be imposed on the grounds of security, public order or for
protecting the interests of the Scheduled Tribes. FREEDOM OF
PROFESSION implies that all the citizens have the right to carry
on any trade or profession, provided the trade or occupation, is not
illegal or immoral. Also, the law does not protect the State from
making laws related to technical or professional qualifications. So,
every citizen shall enjoy these expressions of freedom.

FROM MY PERSPECTIVE….
SIX EXPRESSIONS OF FREEDOM—FREEDOM OF
SPEECH….
WRITTEN BY: VIHA BHAVIN DOSHI
CLASS : VI C

FREEDOM, as we hear this word freedom, first thing that comes to our
mind is 15th August, Independence day, 26th January, Gandhiji and so on…
But what exactly is freedom? Freedom is power or right to act, speak
and change
as one wants without resistant. Freedom is to express our opinion and take
decision without anybody’s permission. In our constitution too, there are
fundamental rights of a citizen viz., Freedom of speech and expression,
Freedom of assembly without arms, Freedom of association, Freedom of
movement throughout the territory of our country, to reside and settle in
any part of country of India and the Freedom to practice any profession.

Talking about freedom of speech, do we really have this freedom? Yes,

there are certain times, when I actually enjoy this freedom. But the real
question lies in how far we take it? Can ‘FREEDOM OF SPEECCH’ be used as
an excuse for saying harmful things without reprimand? Let me explain
you; few days back while returning home from my classes, I saw few people
fighting by the roadside using defamatory words against each other. This
situation attracted my interest and I deeply started listening to what they
were fighting for. Later, I came to know that they were fighting for a parking
space on road. Thinking about this, does freedom of speech mean you can
say anything? Basically the answer is NO!!!
There should be certain conditions and laws for using this freedom.
Freedom of speech is a part of freedom of expression, which means
that individuals have the right to express themselves in whatever way they
wish, but without hurting or harming any others thought or expression.
It should be heartily accepted that freedom of speech is an essential
part of a democratic society and should be upheld to certain degree to
maintain peace and happiness. Freedom of speech should be used for the
betterment of ourselves as well as for others and to make our country a
better place to live in.

“Freedom is the oxygen of our soul,

But we spoil it with our emotions…”
The constitution of India is a comprehensive legal document, which laid the base for the foundation
of our nation. It outlines the fundamental rights and duties of citizens, the extent of government’s
authority and duties etc. Among all our rights and freedoms, four of them- freedom of speech and
expression, freedom of religion, right to life and right to constitutional remedies- hold the most
importance. These are known as the ‘Essential Four’.

Firstly, freedom of speech and expression allows us to express our thoughts and opinions without
fear of punishment. So, if you ever want to share your brilliant ideas or raise your voice against
injustice, you can do it proudly! The freedom of religion states that anyone is free to practice their
own religion. This freedom is truly essential for a diverse country like India, with various distinct
cultures, traditions and religions. It is key to keeping us all united as one nation. The right to life
covers a large variety of things. It means that each one has access to food, basic education,
healthcare, privacy etc. Imagine our country, or rather world where hunger is gone and all are
content and happy. Our constitution also gives us the right to constitutional remedies, like a shield
which protects the bearer. It allows the citizens of India to seek justice if their rights or freedoms are
violated.

I hope you loved learning and understanding the significance of the ‘Essential Four’! Together, we
can stand strong facing the challenges that lie ahead, knowing that we are protected with India’s
courage and security. Let’s be proud of our incredible constitution and the beautiful country we live
in which is a paradise on earth. Let’s work together to make sure no one feels left behind and
everybody enjoys a life of plenty, contentment and love!

Freedom
A talented teacher used to start her class by stating a story and raising a query to
arouse in the students an interest in the subject of study.
Once she had to teach them about the
struggle for freedom led by the leaders of the nation.
She started by narrating a story: "A lion was released after several years in a zoo
cage. Returning to the jungle, he saw a man capturing birds in a net. Seeing the
scene he walked towards the man in order to frighten him and make him run away.
Then he cut the net open and let the birds fly high in the sky and return to their
natural nests."
Then, the teacher asked the children, "Why did the lion cut the net and let the birds
free to fly? The students thought deeply. One of them replied innocently, "Madam, it
was because he knew how hard it was to be in the capture of someone else without
living freely." The student's answer was correct and thus the teacher continued her
topic.
