The three main classifications of Basic Management Theories are
( 1 ) Classical Theories
( 2 ) Behavioral Theories
( 3 ) Contingency Theories

2. What is the importance of each theory listed above?


( 1 ) Classical Theory is focusing only on systematic and scientific management.
Important Elements are
• Scientific management
• Administrative principles
• Bureaucratic organizations.

( 2 ) Behavioral Theory is centered on the behavior of individuals or groups in


management. Important elements are
• Follett’s organizations as communities
• The Hawthorne studies
• Maslow’s theory of human needs
• McGregor’s Theory X and Theory Y
• Argyris’s theory of adult personality

( 3 ) Contingency Theory is based on the situation of an organization or the individual


for a management system. Important elements are
• Fiedler's contingency theory
• Hersey-Blanchard's situational leadership theory
• Contingency model of leadership effectiveness
• Path-goal theory

3. What is the differences between the three theories?


Classical Theory considers on efficiency, productivity as the most important aspects
in the organization while behavioral theory emphasizes on human relations and
emotions in workplace. Contingency theory is foscused on adjusting or adapting of
a situation.
