Environmental Policy and Environment

Legislation/Case
Environmental policy and Environment Legislation/Case
refers to the set of laws, regulations, and initiatives that governments and other

organizations implement to manage and protect the environment.

covers a wide range of issues, including air and water pollution, climate change, waste

management, and biodiversity.

There are three types of

pollutants:
1. Natural Air pollutants
Air Pollution Harmful 2. Pollutants from human activity
substances released 3. Indoor air pollutants
into the atmosphere.
Clean Air Act
This law, first passed in 1963. And
amended several times since then, sets
national air quality standards and
regulates emissions from both mobile
and stationary sources, including
vehicles, power plants, and factories.
WATER POLLUTION
Water pollution is the major
contamination of water bodies like
rivers, lakes, ocean etc. This form of
environmental degradation occurs when
pollutants are directly or indirectly
discharged into water bodies without
adequate treatment to remove harmful
compounds.
Clean Water Act
This law, first passed in 1972 and
amended several times since then, sets
national water quality standards and
regulates discharges of pollutants into
waterways, including lakes, rivers, and
streams.
CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change is the long-term
change in weather. Global climate
occurs very slowly over thousands of
years.
Climate Change Act
This law, passed in 2008, sets legally
binding targets for reducing greenhouse
gas emissions in the UK, with the aim of
achieving net zero emissions by 2050..
The law also requires regular reports on
progress towards meeting these targets.
WASTE

MANAGEMENT
Waste Management is the generation,

prevention, characterization,

monitoring, treatment, handling,

reuse and residual disposition of solid

wastes.
BIODIVERSITY
Biodiversity is defined as the

intrinsically-inbuilt plus the

externally-imposed variability in and

among living organisms existing in

terrestrial, marine and other

ecosystem at a specific period of time.
