Emojis and written communication

The podcast ( (BBC, 2022) states, “Emojis are part of our daily communication. They've been
around for more than 20 years.” There for, emojis are very important in the life of people
worldwide. Through emojis, people can easily express their emotions and feelings, instead of
typing them in an online chat. These small images serve to communicate ideas and intentions
more clearly. consequently, they have converted in important expression forms into online
communication of people. An emoji allows, for example, to express how a person feels without
using many words, and it's these facts that make emojis important in the communication of
humans.

During the podcast (BBC, 2022), the presenters try to explain the importance of emojis in
written communication, they comment that thanks to emojis, online or written communication
is much better, and the inclusion of these small characters transformed boring written
communication into expressive and emotional communication, where people can better
understand the different contexts and points of view of others. However there are people who
believe that emojis are bad for communication and that they cause illiteracy, these people are
the grammar police, but according to (Evans, 2017), the people who believe that emojis are bad
are those who only see the negative side of things, nevertheless, there are studies that show
the opposite of what the grammar police believe and assure, because emojis serve to unite
people, and through the use of these a person can express themselves better and creating
friendly or loving relationships in a few time. From my point of view, emojis are important in
written communication, because these small characters help people to express, emotions, or
feelings that are difficult to describe with words. For example, if a person is sad about
something, they can write it and add sadness emojis, with this the other person understands
the feelings and emotions expressed.

The information heard in the podcast allows us to understand that emojis in written
communication facilitate the understanding of the ideas, thoughts, and feelings of others, allow
people to identify personalities, and help strengthen the different relationships between the
people who use them in their online written communication.
