Students, Here I go again with some reminders for your final project report which is due 22nd
December 2021.

GENERAL

• Use APA 7th Edition – It is easier

• Review in text citations and write correctly

• Apply CRITICAL THINKING to your work

• Organize your final report using the outline given

INTRODUCTION

1. Present the problem by saying what it is, giving some background information and the
context of the problem, how big is the problem (statistics – global and local), what
studies have been done and the gaps. End with the solution, i.e. a clear statement of
the purpose or the aim (the verb, the variables, the population and the setting).
Remember that the solution should aim to solve the problem you have presented.

2. Write in the past tense since the study has been done already

3. Literature review – should be organized according to themes and should not just be a
description of each article. Synthesis should be evident.

4. End your literature review with a brief summary of what the evidence (about your
problem) is. It is ok if you restate the gap and the purpose and the significance of the
study

METHODS.

1. Remember that this is a Secondary Analysis (using data gathered in another study to
address your study problem)

2. For the subsections, put the information in the correct sections...sample size
information under sample size, and sampling, how the sample was selected, in the
sampling section etc

3. In the sample section... first describe the sample for the original study, then describe
the sample for the secondary analysis

4. Data Analysis:

a. For a ratio variable used as the dependent variable, you should first test to
ensure it has a normal distribution and report it. If it does not have a normal
distribution, then you should recode into categories. You should briefly
describe this process.

b. Yes the questions become variables. I suggest strongly that you shorten the
question into a reasonable phrase as the variable name. E.g.. for questions
How often do you use a condom with person A? This becomes ... condom use
frequency with main partner.

c. Data is plural, therefore data were.

d. Reverse code – when you recode negative items to positive ones

e. Data transformation (recoding and computing new variables) should be

described

RESULTS
5. Remember to report the number and %

6. Captions: the caption is placed above the table or figure (APA 7th Edition)

7. Chi squared test is done when you want to test for a relationship between 2
categorical variables. The chi squared test, tests for differences in proportions and
therefore you should report these findings in the results

8. T-tests and ANOVA, test for differences in means, and these should be reported in
the results.

9. Tables and graphs are also ways of presenting the data, therefore, the narrative should
not detail everything in the table

a. show the highlights and reference the table or figure.

b. For example, Higher proportions of respondents from the rural areas

purchased condoms (78.4%) compared to those living in the urban areas
(70.6%) (Table 1). This difference was statistically significant (2=13.377;
df=1; p<0.0001).

c. OR.. Significantly higher proportions of persons living in the rural area

(78.4%) purchased condoms compared to those living in the urban areas
(70.6%), 2=13.377; df=1; p<0.0001 (Table 1).

10. Tables should be professionally done, see example below

DISCUSSION
11. Always state the results of your study first, followed by interpretation and comparison
12. Discussion should have no new results that was not described in the results section.
Only summary results should be given in the discussion
13. The limitations should be part of the discussion

CONCLUSION
14. Conclusions should reflect your objectives and be succinct and clear. It should not be
another discussion with references etc

SUBMIT YOUR WORK

15. Upload through Turnitin to check for similarity with other published studies, internet
sources and students papers.
a. You are able to view similarities, make your corrections and re-upload (twice)
