PLAY SUMMARY
The play 'grip am' presented by the master's class is originally written by ola
Rotimi and it's is a comic play in genre
It narrates the story of a man (Ishe) who is said to have left the city where he
first lived and earned money as a gardener providing well for himself and his wife
to the shackle life of the village. Aso, his wife is annoyed by his act of
stupidity and laziness and insults him everyday for this resulting to their daily
quarrels, argument and fights.
God seeing their struggles sent an angel to grant each of them one wish each of
anything they desired. Ishe wishes for powers to glue anybody he caught plucking
his orange to the tree while Aso wishes for the death of her husband. Both wish
were granted by the angel.
In the following days to come, Ishe uses his newly claimed power to grip people
(landlord,Nepa, police) to the tree who tried to pluck his orange fruit. He made
each of them swear by his words and made them also swear to quit their bad ways.
When death finally came for Ishe, he pleads for death to help him pluck an orange
as his last wish and witfully traps death to the orange tree. Death swears by
Ishe's words never to come for his life or that of his wife ever again.
