TASK SHEET

Title:
Testing Fuses in the Safety Switch
Performance Objective:

Test the fuses in the safety switch following the specifications given below and in
compliance with the PEC standards.

Supplies/Materials:

● Installed safety switch with fuses

Equipment:

● Multimeter tester
● Fuse puller
Steps/Procedure:
1. Turn off the safety switch to test the fuse.
2. Remove the fuse using a fuse puller.
3. Power on the multimeter. Make sure that the dial is pointing towards the continuity
setting.
4. Put each lead at the ends of the fuse and look at the display.
5. For digital multimeters, a continuous beep means that the fuse is functioning well.
Otherwise, the fuse is blown and needs to be replaced. For analog multimeters, the
fuse is blown if the multimeter pointer does not move or if there is no deflection.
6. Always remember:
a. Always power off the equipment before testing the fuse.
b. Furthermore, always use a fuse with the same rating to replace old fuses.
