Macbeth vs Lady Macbeth

both are ambitious and care about their objectives/well- being


None of them is interested in the well being of the country or the people

Macbeth has a great imagination whereas Lady Macbeth lacks this capacity.
Macbeth has a great sense of morality. He knows what is right and what is wrong and the
consequences of his acts. He can anticipate the harmful efect of his acts.

Lady Macbeth feel guilt and cannot deal with it so, she commits suicide.
Lady Macbeth is heroic.
Will= deed → what she desires and what her husband desires is what has to be done. There is no
morality involved. Her determination overpowers her concience.

Macbeth kills sleep, this is a sympthom of the awareness of his consequences.

Macbeth becomes a dictator character after killing the king, his decisions are more violent.

Noble characters speak in verse while humble characters speaks in prose.

Lady Macbeth's change of her mental condition is shown in the language. She speaks prose and not
verse anymore. Act 5, scene 1, line 30.

Prose vs Verse
Dramatic irony: a literary device, a type of irony found in drama. It refers to the moment when the
audience knows more than the characters. The audience has a different understanding of events.
Increases tension. Ex: when Mcduff doesn't know that his family has been butchered. Examples:
act 1, scene 6, line 1
