As any student knows, writing a thesis can be a daunting task.

It requires hours of research, critical

thinking, and organization to produce a well-written and well-supported paper. But when it comes to
writing a thesis on a complex character like Lady Macbeth, the challenge becomes even greater.

Lady Macbeth, the ambitious and manipulative wife of the tragic hero Macbeth, has been a subject
of fascination for centuries. Her character is multi-faceted, with layers of complexity that make her
both intriguing and difficult to analyze. From her initial desire for power to her descent into madness,
Lady Macbeth's journey is a rollercoaster of emotions and actions that can be overwhelming for any
writer.

One of the biggest challenges in writing a thesis on Lady Macbeth is finding a unique angle to
approach her character. With countless essays and analyses already written about her, it can be
challenging to come up with a fresh and original perspective. This requires extensive research and a
deep understanding of the play to uncover new insights and connections.

one-dimensional villain, but a complex and dynamic individual with conflicting motivations. This
makes it challenging to create a clear and concise thesis statement that captures the essence of her
character and its impact on the play.

Furthermore, Lady Macbeth's character is heavily influenced by the societal norms and expectations
of her time. As a woman in a patriarchal society, she is expected to be submissive and obedient to her

Displayed in rhyming couplets, Shakespeare wanted the audience to know that this was the end of
her happiness and her life. This mainly concerns the preparation and design of the project. She is so
certain of her own strength and determination that she can say “leave all the rest to me”. Macbeth is
saying that he will not give in to the evil, something Lady Macbeth has already done. By the end of
Lady Macbeth's life, guilt has replaced her incredible ambition in equal measure. She still gives him
orders, “go get some water” and “go carry them and smear with the sleepy grooms with blood”.
Once the murder has been announced, Lady Macbeth remains loyal to Macbeth as she see's he is
over come with guilt and may give something away. Someone who does not give a second thought
to killing someone if it is going to help them (in this case) up the social strata. She's unable to take
action herself, likely because of social constraints and power hierarchies, so she must persuade her
husband to go along with her evil plans. Both are trying to convince the others about the fate of the
King yet the way in which they set about achieving this is what separates them. The couple are have
now been subject to evil for so long that the final effects are beginning to occur. She came into the
chamber and almost I would imagine shouts the line, 'Hark. She summons the thickness, or darkness
of the night and the 'damnest smoke of hell', to make her deed as dark and concealed as possible.
She tells Duncan that she has checked and double checked that everything is sufficiently in order.
Facts we learn about the Witches at the start of the play. She has nightmares, and in one famous
scene (Act Five, Scene One), she tries to wash her hands of the blood she imagines has been left
behind by the murders. Lady Macbeth asked almost immediately when he was to leave their manor,
Macbeth replied, “To-morrow, as he purposes.”, Lady Macbeth rudely interrupts her husband
contradicting him by saying: “O, never shall sun that morrow see!”. The real message here is not to
place your ambitions over the rights and lives of other people; something people must have done
quite a lot in Shakespeare's time. MacBeth even teasingly knows this, saying in affect that she would
prefer not to know the details of his plan. Lady Macbeth manages her husband’s estate and life
direction and zounds, does he require a lot of instruction. Yet again though, she picks up the
offensive, though in a slightly weaker position perhaps. Lady MacBeth enters asking why MacBeth,
as expected of a host, was present at the table, MacBeth asks 'hath he asked for me?' Lady MacBeth
replies, 'Know you not he has?' I believe she would ask this question quite firmly; she wants Duncan
to be oblivious to any negative feelings MacBeth may have. She uses this when she says “I would,
while it was smiling in my face in my face, have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums and
dashed the brains out, had I sworn as you have done to this”. She is the Eve to Macbeth as he Adam
to her and he is tempted, in this case to be king. After breaking him down, Lady Macbeth recites her
detailed plan. Empty reply does not make any sense for the end user Submit reply Cancel

overtake her husband. As Lady Macbeth digs further into Macbeth's dignity and pride, he suddenly
fights back, claiming his rights in the relationship, stating that he is the man that she repeatedly calls
a coward and a weakling. She called upon the spirits to take away her feminine qualities, which
made her wicked and cold hearted. Lady MacBeth thinks that a man is someone who would do
anything to make himself bigger, stronger or more powerful.
She is the Eve to Macbeth as he Adam to her and he is tempted, in this case to be king. During Act 1
scene 5 we see her praying to evil spirits in her soliloquy for her to become more masculine and evil,
with any feminine attributes and natures to be stripped from her, implying that she also may need a
little push to make her ambitious enough to commit the murders. His moral sense seems to have
entirely disappeared, suggested by the murders of Macduff?s family. He is also good king of
Scotland whom Macbeth, in his ambition for the crown, murders. This also frightens Lady Macbeth
as it may give away that they have ordered for his execution. Empty reply does not make any sense

kill him, as Macbeth's power and courage increase, he involves Lady Macbeth less and less. Lady
Macbeth- Character changes throughout the play. Her mental stability reaches its terminal point and
this once monster, becomes nothing but a nervous wreck. Later on, when haunted by their ghost, he
was determined to kill Macbeth. This shows that Lady Macbeth is now weaker than Macbeth ever
was and she can no longer cope with the guilt of what she has done or what she has turned Macbeth
into. He starts doing more without consulting his wife, like killing again, this time a man called
Banquo. She continues, 'The raven himself is coarse, That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan'. After
the first murderer leaves, Macbeth suddenly changes and loses control. I remember the joy I had
when I received your letter about the prophecies made about you becoming king. This is a moment of
weakness that will soon broaden and leave her exposed to the evil that is constantly present in this
tragedy. One other reason why I think this is because Macbeth took the time out especially to write
to her, informing Lady Macbeth of his latest news instead of waiting until he saw her next to tell her.
I imagine that she would speak this sentence in a sense of amazement as Duncan is literally dropping
into her lap. King Duncan describes the Captain (Act 1, Scene 2 Line 44) who was fighting for him
against the Norwegians. At this stage in the play Lady Macbeth is confident while Macbeth is
subject to frightened loyalty. A modern audience’s view will be different to Shakespearian audience
because the modern audience are used to seeing these kinds of things. The sleeping and the dead are
but pictures; ’tis the eye of childhood that fears a painted devil.’. To do this, Macbeth hired three
murderers to kill both men and blame it on natural cuases such as a snake which was used for
Banquo, but Fleance was not killed and he raised the alarm to all of the other lords that Macbeth was
a murderer and that Macbeth wrongly gained the throne. In Macbeth?s case the honourable hero we
met in the first act is now completely twisted. After committing the murder he then leaves the crime
scene to wash the blood off his hands. We can see this because she asks and replies in very short
sentences, which are a sign of her anger and anxiety. In fact, Lady MacBeth is not present in any of
Act-4, not appearing until into Act-5. She is clever to say this because Macbeth is brave and won’t
tolerate being called a coward. Lady MacBeth enters asking why MacBeth, as expected of a host,
was present at the table, MacBeth asks 'hath he asked for me?' Lady MacBeth replies, 'Know you not
he has?' I believe she would ask this question quite firmly; she wants Duncan to be oblivious to any
negative feelings MacBeth may have. Eventually her guilt was too much and this lead to her death.
The crusade’s mission is to place the rightful king, Malcolm, on the throne, but Macduff also desires
vengeance for Macbeth’s murder of Macduff’s wife and young son. This presents the audience with
a dose of dramatic irony as they know that what really lies inside the castle itself is as evil and
twisted as it's inhabitants. This is another example of her feelings of guilt as she had obviously been
very on-edge and her listening had pricked up and she had noticed these very quiet and probably
distant sounds of the owl and the crickets. One of the things that particularly stood out to me was
her inability to commit the murder herself. Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's most widely performed
tragedies; the play is full of betrayal, ambition and punishment. When she learns of Duncan coming
to dinner, she administrates ideas of looking above suspicion. We know he’s a great warrior but she
see him as “too kind”. In Act 2-scene-ii she says, 'That which hath made them drunk hath made me
bold'. She is the centre of every evil and bad thing Macbeth does. Character wise, there has been a
complete reversal between Lady Macbeth and Macbeth and now with the use of chuck, he is almost
patronising her. Lady Macbeth's mind is in full gear with this murder. Her second soliloquy now
shows the igniting of this wicked plan. This essay is on how Lady Macbeth perseveres to help
Macbeth to achieve his ambitions and how this leads to her complicated character changing through
the play. Tweak the number of pages, your academic level, and the deadline to get the best price. The

imagining all the consequences of the murder before he commits it, this is due to his vivid

irritated by his lack of courage and has to send the guests away. Interests arranging her husband's rise
to the top of the food chain. At this stage the audience can deduce that Macbeth is easily subject to
persuasion while Lady Macbeth is very persuasive. Duncan is the model of a virtuous, caring, and
farsighted ruler. Macbeth at this stage is going deeper and deeper into the world of evil. He alerts the
whole castle including Banquo, Malcolm and Donaldbain of the king's death and so Lady Macbeth
enters. Macbeth has ordered Banquo and his son to be killed as he does not want Banquo’s last

Third, the lack of structure destroys the fragile structure of the text. At the beginning of the play
MacBeth had been mentioned to be, 'A worthy bridegroom for the goddess of war herself!' He has
been honoured for his great roles in battle by the king himself. Lady MacBeth recounts her guilty
deeds but as a sign of her mental disarray, she cannot tell them in any chronological order. The
servants that find Lady Macbeth's body are horrified to see her dead; it was deeply saddening for
them to see her like that. Here she thought she had the cat in the bag, her husband was prepared to
take this amazing opportunity to grasp kingship. Her next step was when she had to come to terms
with her and her husbands reality of evil. MacBeth fails to see this though and she carries on. By

Shakespeare bends even the porter’s language to serve the themes of the play-whilst at the same time
giving Macbeth an opportunity to wash and change clothing before reappearing on stage. As
Macbeth does not leave the weapons with the guards Lady Macbeth becomes angry and tells him to

woman, who disintegrates into a guilt ridden weak woman. Macduff arrives at the gate and goes to
see the king in his chamber, and returns with the news of his death. The reading of the letter is
initially, the hatching of her ideas. She reacts in a way similar to that when she was attending to
Duncan in Act 1 scene 6, where she is very elaborate in her efforts to help, creating a suspiciously
false air about her.
To explain it: a dominant character can not exist without someone being submissive to its dominance
(for example; good and evil cannot exist without each other to counter) and vice versa for the
submissive character. This might indicate that she has immediately formulated the idea of a murder.
MacBeth is defending himself, he is suggesting that anything more brave (by bravery he means acts

that is the truth. She came into the chamber and almost I would imagine shouts the line, 'Hark. Lady
Macbeth is one of the most striking characters in the play. Secondly, you should always begin your

supposed to commit the murder herself, but she goes in and comes straight back out again, being
startled by a bird's cry as she stands there. When Duncan is murdered in Macbeth’s castle, Malcolm is

and devotion to pressurise and motivate Macbeth into killing Duncan. As the fateful day draws near,
Macbeth becomes delusional, picturing visions of blood stained daggers, witches and ghosts. It is
undecided whether or not she is pretending to be the controlling evil person which her persona
appears to be but that is in a way irrelevant as it was certainly influential enough to drive her
husband to multiple homicides. This shows that Lady Macbeth is now weaker than Macbeth ever was
and she can no longer cope with the guilt of what she has done or what she has turned Macbeth into.
Thinking now that she and Macbeth had failed, her first signs of weakness appear on line twelve to
thirteen. By not returning to bed with his wife, Macbeth in my opinion purposefully hurts her. He
wants us to see her as a good person but then as we read on, he makes the audience realise that she is

Macbeth arrives at his home, Dunsinane, Duncan, the King of Scotland, is invited to stay with them.
Macbeth displays various good and bad thoughts, actions and behaviors throughout the story which
all contribute to the overall perception of his character whether he is good or evil. She proceeds to
outline her plan, believing she now has MacBeth back onboard. She is clever to say this because
Macbeth is brave and won’t tolerate being called a coward. If she saw another side to him which she
didn't like and saw that there were things which were almost lies that she had thought about him -
- Lady Macbeth would probably make his life miserable; as we, the readers, do understand her
temperament and know that she would not stand for any sort of inconsistency on his part. Macbeths'
range of evil has outstretched Lady MacBeths, she is beyond it all.
I personally think that Lady Macbeth was blamed for a lot that wasn't entirely her fault. Macbeth
begins to fear him after hearing the witches’ prophecy that one day Banquo’s sons will be kings.
During his reign, he begins to fear the loyalty of those around him including Banquo and Macduff.
Then she says “dashed the brains out” which makes the evil more desolating. Macbeth lies to Banquo
in Act 2 when he is on his way to kill Duncan, saying that he has not thought about the witches’
prophecies since. But still at this stage she is chastising, determined and scornful of her husband who
fears he will loose the gods blessing because of his actions. The audience gets to understand that
Shakespeare did not want to present Lady Macbeth as a character who takes pleasure in the sight of
bloodshed and gore, but one who craves power and enforces her ambitions upon those she can
manipulate. It would mean that she would be a 'servant of the devil' and would therefore do his
work instead of God's, and apparently the devil's evil is limitless, so he could drive Lady Macbeth to
do terrifying, unthinkable things. She tells him she will pray for him constantly and speaks of loyalty
