Important User Information

Solid-state equipment has operational characteristics differing from those of electromechanical equipment.
Safety Guidelines for the Application, Installation and Maintenance of Solid State Controls (publication
SGI-1.1 available from your local Rockwell Automation sales office or online at
http://literature.rockwellautomation.com) describes some important differences between solid-state
equipment and hard-wired electromechanical devices. Because of this difference, and because of the wide
variety of uses for solid-state equipment, all persons responsible for applying this equipment must satisfy
themselves that each intended application of this equipment is acceptable.

In no event will Rockwell Automation, Inc. be responsible or liable for indirect or consequential damages
resulting from the use or application of this equipment.

The examples and diagrams in this manual are included solely for illustrative purposes. Because of the
many variables and requirements associated with any particular installation, Rockwell Automation, Inc.
cannot assume responsibility or liability for actual use based on the examples and diagrams.

No patent liability is assumed by Rockwell Automation, Inc. with respect to use of information, circuits,
equipment, or software described in this manual.

Reproduction of the contents of this manual, in whole or in part, without written permission of Rockwell

Throughout this manual, when necessary, we use notes to make you aware of safety considerations.

Identifies information about practices or circumstances that can cause an explosion in

a hazardous environment, which may lead to personal injury or death, property
damage, or economic loss.

Identifies information that is critical for successful application and understanding of the
product.

Identifies information about practices or circumstances or death, property damage, or

economic loss. Attentions avoid a hazard, and recognize the consequence.

Labels may be on or inside the equipment, that dangerous voltage may be present.

Labels may be on or inside the equipment, for example, a drive or motor, to alert
people that surfaces may reach dangerous temperatures.

About this Document

This document explains how to quickly add a Power Device Object into a Studio 5000 Logix
Designer project using Studio 5000 Application Code Manager Software. In this example, we will
be importing an ArmorStart 281E Power Device Object. Steps to import other Power Device
Objects are very similar.
Once a new or existing Application Code Manager project is created or opened then one or more
Power Device Object Libraries can be selected and registered. Once registered then the Power
Device Ladder Logic Objects can be imported and instances created into one of the project’s
programs. The Logix Designer project can then be generated and verified.

System Compatibility
 Studio 5000 Application Code Manager v2.2 or later
 Logix Designer V30.01 or later

1. Launch Application Code Manager.

The following window appears.

Note:

The last project (if any) is opened by default. Otherwise, a blank screen is displayed.

2. Create a New Project or open an existing project

If a New Project is selected, the Object Configuration Wizard screen opens as shown below.

Enter the controller name. Details marked in red box is compulsory.

Controller details, slot number and revision should be selected. Click finish after entering the
details.

You will now see that the controller you selected is listed under Registered Libraries as
shown in screen below.

4. Registering Libraries.

Right click on Registered Libraries to register the library. Click Register.

Select the file “(RA-LIB)_Device_Asset-Control_PowerDiscrete_raC_Dvc_AS281E_(1.0).HSL4”

within the ApplicationCodeManagerLibraries folder of the Power Device Library v2.2 or later
download and click open.

7. Generate Controller

Let’s generate the ACD file for our controller. Right click on CLX and select Generate Controller.

Click on the Generate button.

It will take a short period to generate the ACD file. Notice the ACM Project Data box. It is
checked by default for V27 and greater. The checked box indicates that the library
information will be stored as part of the ACD file.

Once you get a status of Power_Device.ACD file Successful, click Close.

Go to the saved project path and open the Power_Device.ACD project.

You will now find the ACD and L5X files in the folder as shown below.
