18/03/2019 – Medical Officer- Punjab I am Medical Officer at Male & Female Special
Till date. Special Care Institute of Care Unit in Punjab Institute of Mental Health,
Unit Mental Lahore. I have to assess and manage in-patient
Health, referrals for the physical ailments of psychiatric
Lahore patients. As a junior doctor, I work under the
supervision of my ward consultant. My ward is
specifically designed in Mental Hospital to deal
with patients who present with organic illnesses, and
are often of critical nature.
We have to deal with acute emergencies, poisoning,
trauma, MI, Stroke, Epilepsy, COVID suspected &
confirmed cases, Asthma, Tuberculosis, Chronic
Obstructive Pulmonary Disease,Chronic Liver
Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease, Congestive Heart
failure and Arrhythmia etc.
Moreover, we also deal with syndromes pertaining
to adverse reaction of psychiatric medications like
Neuroleptic Malignant syndrome, Serotonin
syndrome and Parkinsonism.
Please note that this is just a reflection of my duties
at Special Care Unit.
05/08/2018 – Medical Officer The Park I initially started clinical attachment at The Park
04/08/2020 Lane Clinic, Lane Clinic, based on my one year performance, I
Lahore had been appointed as Medical Officer by the same
clinic.
The Park Lane Clinic is one of the top psychiatric
hospital in Lahore. It is a ten bedded facility for
managing patients suffering from acute and chronic
psychiatric conditions. My responsibility was to
work with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals
including Psychiatrists, Physicians and
Psychologists. We had to offer a wide range of
mental health services, across the age spectrum to
meet the needs of children, adults and geriatrics. We
had to provide comprehensive psychiatric services
both at out-patient and in-patient levels to patients
suffering either of the following ailments:

Depression
Anxiety Disorders
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Bipolar Affective Disorder (BAD)
Schizophrenia and related disorders
Addiction Services & Rehabilitation
Personality disorders
Sexual disorders
Eating disorders
Marital Problems

My duties mainly included managing acute


emergencies pertaining to psychiatric disorders,
detailed & collateral history taking, mental state
examination, mini mental state examination (if
needed), general physical & systemic examination,
sending baseline investigations, establishing a
provisional diagnosis & reporting to my consultant
for work up done on an admission for further orders.
Moreover, consultant orders were carried out for in-
patient care of admitted patients. Outpatients,
follow-ups, day care and patients at home services
were also supposed to be assessed & discussed with
seniors in order to formulate or revise a
management plan.
01/05/2018 – House Officer- Shaikh Zayed My responsibilities included focused and relevant
31/07/2018 Radiology Hospital history taking from patients, which was followed by
Lahore assisting various Radiology procedures like MRI,
CT, Ultrasound studies, Contrast studies and other
fluoro assisted procedures under supervision of my
seniors.

I had to attend X-Ray, CT & MRI Reporting


sessions regularly and often had to teach medical
students thereafter.

During my rotation, we had a chance to work on


modern and up to date facilities like computerized
Radiology, Ultrasonography (3D/4D), Color
Doppler ultrasound, Digital Fluoroscopy,
Mammography, CT (4 & 64 Slice), MRI (0.5T &
1.5T), Angiography and Interventional Radiology.
01/02/2018 – House Officer- Shaikh My duties in the department of Internal Medicine
30-04-2018 Medicine Zayed included the following:
Hospital
Lahore • Attending the morning handover.
• Taking patient history, performing relevant clinical
examinations, making differentials and formulating
a management plan.
• Discussing patients with the consultant before the
ward round.
• Attending the ward round; presenting cases and
noting down the orders.
• Following orders from the rounds. This included
the following:

* Small procedures like blood sampling, IV


cannulation, NG tube or urinary catheter insertion.
* Clerking.
* Making drug charts.
* Monitoring vitals
* Requesting imaging scans.
* Chasing reports.
* Making referrals to other departments.
* Making discharge summaries.
* Answering phone calls from other departments.
* Documenting everything in patient files.
* Counseling the attendants regarding care at home.

• We had OPD weeks where we had patient


consultations along with the Trainee Residents –
Endocrinology OPD, Hematology Clinic, General
OPD.

• In the ER we worked in teams led by a Consultant


which included a batch leader and Trainee residents.
I had the opportunity to see a wide range of patients
with medical illnesses. To name a few – Acute
coronary syndrome, Heart failure, DKA, Stroke,
Meningitis, Pneumonia, Asthma and COPD
exacerbation, Upper GI Bleed, Gout, Acute Renal
failure, Gastroenteritis, Electrolyte Imbalance,
Poisoning and overdose, other Infectious and
Hematological diseases.

• I had a ward call every fourth day where we


looked after in-patients from 8 medical bays (60
beds) in a team of 2 House officers and 2 Trainee
residents with an on call consultant along with
Nurses and allied Health staff.

• We had weekly teaching sessions and a medicine


meeting every 2 weeks.

• I had the opportunity to teach medical students


patient consultations, clinical examinations, drug
prescription and the basics of formulating a
management plan.

• We had frequent presentations on drugs by


officials from the Pharmaceutical Industry
(Dosages, Drug Interactions, Clinical Trials and new
Research). Working in wards for pre and post-
operative care. Looking for patients in ITU, history
taking and examination and record keeping.
01/11/2017 – House Officer- Shaikh Zayed My responsibilities as a House surgeon in
31/01/2018 Department of Hospital Orthopedics surgery department included:
Orthpaedics Lahore • Attending the morning handover.
• Reviewing in-patient beds allocated to me.
• Presenting cases in the morning round.
• Following up on round orders.
• Maintaining patient files and records.
• Requesting and chasing patient investigations.
• Making discharge summaries.

• In the OT, I observed major surgeries and assisted


in minor surgeries. I learnt stitching and suturing
along with surgical techniques used in open and
arthroscopic surgeries. To name a few–
*Knee arthroscopy and meniscectomy
*Carpal tunnel release
*Removal of support implant
*Knee replacement
*Repair of femoral neck fracture
*Debridement of skin/muscle/bone/fracture
*Hemiarthroplasty & Total Hip Replacement.

• Attending patients in the recovery room and ICU.


• Post-op ward round.
• Post-op wound care including dressing and drains.
• In the OPD, we used to attend patients with minor
Orthopedic diseases such as infections and minor
fractures, follow up cases and patient referrals.
• During my long calls – every fifth day, I had to
prepare patients for the next OT list. This involved
pre-op assessment, investigations and patient fitness
for surgery/anesthesia.

• In the ER, we managed patients in teams led by a


consultant with Trainee Residents and House

consultations, clinical examinations, back slab, POP
and the basics of Orthopedic management to
undergraduate medical students.
01/08/2017 – House Officer- Shaikh Zayed My responsibilities as a House surgeon in the
