1. What is data?
Data is defined as; collection of raw facts and figures, which is collected for specific purpose. The data may be in
the form of text, numbers, sounds, images, video clips etc.•
2. Define information.
When raw facts & figures are arranged in such a suitable manner that they give the clear & proper meanings then they
are called information.
3. Define data processing.
data processing is defined as: a sequence of operations performed on data to convert it into useful information. Data
processing is also known as computing.
4. Define information system.
A system that processes the raw data to convert it into useful information is referred to as information system. An
information system or computer-based system includes hardware, software, data, procedures and the users that
interact with the computer. The data is provided to the information system and processed information is obtained.
5. What is information technology?
information technology is a technology that combines computing with high-speed communication links for carrying
data from one place to another, all over the world (i.e. over this global village).
6. What is a computer?
A computer is an electronic machine that can be programmed to accept data (input), process it into useful
information (output), and store it in a secondary storage device for data reuse.
7. Define hardware.
Hardware is physical components of a computer. You can touch, see and feel hardware. The computer
along with input/output devices is known as hardware.
8. Define software.
A set instructions given to the computer to perform a specific task, is called software (or computer
program). It tells the computer what to do and how to do.
