Scotland is a popular tourist destination. However, people don’t visit Scotland for its
climate. There’s a lot of snow and ice in winter, and sometimes there isn’t any sun in
summer! There’s a lot of rain! People visit Scotland to see its beautiful landscape
features and experience its historical cities.
There are some spectacular mountains, rivers, forests and lakes in Scotland and some
beautiful islands. One of the famous lakes is Loch Lomond – ‘Loch’ means lake in
Scotland. Loch Lomond is very long and there are about 60 islands in it. On the east of
the lake there are some beaches, but there isn’t any sand on them. There’s also a
mountain, Ben Lomond, near the lake. People like walking the 974 metres to the top of
it.
Glasgow, a large Scottish city, is near Loch Lomond. It isn’t the capital, that’s
Edinburgh, but Glasgow is a very important cultural centre. There are 13 museums in
the city, and it’s easy to visit them because there’s an underground railway in the city.
There’s also an old university. It’s popular with international students.
