INTRODUCTION

Rationale

This study was conducted to assess the layout of the water refilling station located at Sitio
Ibabao, Brgy. Guiwan I, Palompon, Leyte – the WAFSER Refilling Station. With this, we may be able to
contrive all the principles being discussed regarding facilities layout and design, ergonomic concerns and
occupational safety and health matters.

Background of the Study

RRL

Everyone, everywhere has the right to water. Unfortunately, billions of people around the world
have no access to safely managed drinking water, defined as water that is accessible on premises,
available when needed and free from contamination. According to WHO (2019), in the Philippines,
around 1 in 10 people still do not have access to improved water sources.

Water is essential for life. The amount of fresh water on earth is limited, and its quality is under
constant pressure. Preserving the quality of fresh water is important for the drinking-water supply, food
production and recreational water use. Water quality can be compromised by the presence of infectious
agents, toxic chemicals, and radiological hazards. (WHO, 2019)

Safe drinking water has been one of the top political agendas of many governments. Supply and
distribution are key challenges in countries where infrastructure is lacking. In the Philippines, bottled
water has established a major foothold. Municipal piped water system is scarce and extremely difficult
to reach rural or provincial areas, and in some places, other people are uncertain about biological
contaminants, disinfection by-products from the chlorination process, taste, and odor.
