1. Compare and contrast the five registers of English discussed in the video?

- Intimate
● As described in the video, an intimate register is like having a
conversation with your significant other, close friend, family
member, etc. it is the most informal register and is mostly used
when talking to people that we know very well.
● An example of intimate register or conversation that I can think of is
this thing we call “deep talks”, ‘deep talks’ happen when both
parties are vulnerable and are sharing personal information in
which they can reflect or relate together with.
- Casual
● With casual register, we use this when we are talking to a
classmate or an acquaintance or a person we just met at an event.
It’s less personal since we are not close with this particular person.
- Consultative
● Is used when being consulted, I believe we use this kind of register
when talking to a doctor, nurse, etc.
- Formal
● In a formal register, this is where you need to have the right
grammar, pronunciation, writing, spelling, right addressing, etc. to
be able to get your point across in a proper way. This is for both
verbal and writing.
- Frozen
● Frozen register is mainly used in writings, basically in frozen
register doesn’t change, it’s like a fact. It’s used in legal documents,
the bible, pledge,etc.

2. Why is it important to know the different registers?

- So that we know what language to use or so that we know how to talk in
this specific situation.

- Yes, it is. This is because in some parts or situations, these registers are
