Cleaning instructions for pleated rod filters

Please see separate instructions for pleated (only), textile and stainless steel filters.

It is important to check and clean/change filters at regular intervals so that they are not clogged, as
this might lead to the fact that the filters will be subjected to overload, and that undesired matters or
particles leak from the conveyor.

Cleaning of filter shall be done at least once per month.

A change of filter shall be made at least once every six months. Notice that changing/cleaning of filter
may be required at shorter intervals.

General information for rod filters

 Handle the filters with care.

 Textile filters, pleated filters and pleated rod filters (rod filters of sintered polymer) all have a
filtration surface layer (membrane or surface coating). If the surface layer is damaged, the
filtration degree and life will be shortened.
 When mounting and dismounting the filter, careful handling is essential. Often the filters are
fitted into a filter plate. When the filter is dismounted from the Piab vacuum conveyor this
must be made with care so that the filter membrane is not damaged by the plate edge of the
filter plate. For the same reason, also mounting of the filter must be made carefully.

Dry cleaning

 Brush the filter surface very gently by hand with a soft brush by nylon or PVC. Use maximum
5 N (1.12 lbf) as contact pressure.
 A hard brush is NOT recommended since it will damage the membrane. Nor should the
dust/dirt be scraped off with any sharp/hard objects – this will also damage the membrane.

Wet cleaning

 Stand the filter in as a vertical position as possible.

 Rinse the filter surface with a gentle water jet with a maximum pressure of the water jet at 1
bar (14.5 psi).
 Use clean water with a maximum temperature of 40°C (104°F).
 Never use a brush when rinsing the filter.
 Prevent water and dust from coming into contact with the clean side of the filter.
 Handle the filter with care in order to avoid damages to the membrane.
 Allow the filter to dry in room temperature [ca. 20°C (68°F)] during at least 24 hours. Good
ventilation and low moisture of air are required for effective drying.
 The cleaned filter must be dry before it can be used again.
 It is possible to clean the filter with ethanol or isopropanol with a maximum concentration of
90%.
 Do not use solvent when cleaning. Alcohol based solvent is not recommended to use.
