Dr. Aron Dellinger becomes WFO secretary general

T he WFO announced the appointment of Dr. Aron Dellinger

Dr. James Vaden receives WFO Regional Award

O rthodontic educator Dr. James Vaden received a WFO


Regional Award of Merit during the AAO/WFO Presidents’
Breakfast at the 2023 AAO Annual Session (April 21-24 in Chicago).
Dr. Vaden is the first North American AAO member to receive the
WFO award, which recognizes WFO members who make significant
contributions to orthodontics, whether through academics, research,
clinical practice or organized orthodontics.

Dr. Vaden joined the faculty of his alma mater, the University of
Tennessee orthodontic program, as a clinical professor in 1980.
From 1999 until 2010, while serving as chairman of the program,
he made the 600-mile round-trip commute from his home and
practice in eastern Tennessee to Memphis weekly.

Recognizing the program’s need for a modern clinical facility, Dr. James Vaden offers remarks after receiving the Regional Award, which

Progress update: the world orthodontic educators list

D uring the AAO/WFO Presidents’ Breakfast, held during the


2023 AAO Annual Session in Chicago, WFO leaders released
the initial draft of the global list of recognized orthodontic educators.
A draft list of over 2,500 names has been compiled, with the
understanding that a good number of WFO affiliate societies have
yet to complete submissions of their rolls of qualified educators.

World Orthodontic Health Day observances emphasize the


orthodontist-patient relationship

S ince 2017, World Orthodontic Health Day has provided an excellent opportunity to spread the positive messages of orthodontic treatment
and interact with members of the public of all ages who would like to know more. The event is celebrated annually on May 15.

For the 2023 observance, the WFO introduced new resources to help engage the public in thought about the benefits of orthodontic treatment.
Following the 2023 World Orthodontic Health Day theme, “My Orthodontist and Me Smiling Together,” individuals and organizations
worldwide created many effective social media posts. Click here to view a video compilation of celebratory social media posts.

Affiliate organizations, university programs and individual orthodontists worldwide celebrated in a variety of ways.

Tuensang; and Assam Rifles High School, Tuensang. Three military
establishments were also included: No. 7 Dental Unit/Hospital
Assam Rifles, 28 Battalion AR and HQ 7 Sector AR.

Nearly 2,000 students participated in the events along with 500

2023 T.M. Graber Award study focused on interventions for


controlling pain during orthodontic treatment

in Syria are the recipients of the 2023 WFO T.M. Graber
Outstanding Article Award.

Drs. Amer Owayda, Mohammad Hajeer, Rashad Murad, and


Rabab Al-Sabbagh are the authors of the award-winning paper,
“The Efficacy of Low-Level Laser Therapy Versus Paracetamol-
Caffeine in Controlling Orthodontic Separation Pain and Changes
in the Oral-Health-Related Quality of Life in Class I Malocclusions:
A 3-Arm, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial.” The
article was first published in the Journal of the World Federation
of Orthodontists (JWFO) in June 2022.

ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR EXCELLENCE

The 13th International Congress of the Romanian Association for Excellence


in Orthodontics (AREO) took place May 18-20, 2023, in a modern Congress
Center in the beautiful city of Targu Mures, Romania. AREO President
Dr. Irina Zetu, and the president of the Congress, Dr. Mariana Pacurar,
organized the meeting.
