1. What is history?

History can be defined as the study and interpretation of events, people's or society's
actions. This includes a written record on the experiences, actions and developments of
mankind over time. In order to understand a coherent view of the past, historians have
gathered, analyzed and interpreted various kinds of evidences such as typed documents,
artifacts, and spoken traditions.
2. What is the importance of studying Philippine history
The study of history offers a variety of benefits, including an appreciation of the past,
learning from mistakes, exploring cultural heritage, reporting on current events,
encouraging critical thinking and preserving memory. It will contribute to making
societies more aware, connecting them with their roots and acknowledging the diversity
of people's experiences. In assessing previous patterns, societies are able to make
informed decisions in matters of social, policy and economics.
3. Define Primary and secondary sources.
For historians, the two types of historical evidence that they use when studying and
interpreting histories are primary and secondary sources. The primary sources provide
insight into the thought process, experience and events by means of initial material
developed in a particular period. Secondary sources, based on research carried out by
historians, academic experts and researchers, are interpretation or analysis of primary
sources by not experienced individuals.
4. Give at least one Philippine National hero, and explain his/her contribution to Philippine
history.
Gabriela Silang is a major figure in Philippine history, who had played an important role
in the struggle against Spanish colonial rule. She was the first Filipino woman to go on a
revolt against Spanish colonial rule, challenging traditional gender roles and highlighting
women's importance in independence struggle. It is proof of Silang's courage and
leadership that she has advocated for the independence of the Philippines, established an
independent government, and inspired future generations. She is remembered as a symbol
of resistance against colonial domination and tyranny, reminding Filipinos of the
sacrifices made by those who challenged oppressive regimes. Filipinos continue to be
inspired by her legacy to uphold freedom, justice, and the pursuit of a sovereign nation.
