Introduction
Pursuant to Republic Act (RA) 10121 otherwise known as the Philippine Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management of 2010, which mandates all national government agencies to
institutionalize policies, structures, coordination mechanisms and programs with continuing
budget appropriation, the Department of education issued DepEd Memo. No. 50 s. 2011 with
the goal to increase RESILIENCY in the school campus in the face of disasters and
calamities.
Aside from implementing disaster risk reduction mechanisms, this is also a way of
inculcating among learners the values of preparedness and RESILIENCY.
Learners were also encouraged to apply concepts and mechanism at home and in their
community to mitigate risks in times of calamity and disasters.
General Objective
The School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office aims to ensure safety
and preparedness of the school, learners, teachers and other non-teaching staff in times of
disaster. This can be achieved through risk reduction and management mechanisms, policies
and programs that are sustainable, continuous and institutionalized.
