Teach children to avoid prejudice, embrace diversity and fight racism

Lessons Learned:

• We helped children to understand that it’s okay to notice differences, it’s ok to ask why
someone’s eyes looks different from theirs, it’s not ok to hate or treat people differently
because of the differences we notice and that is the lesson we set out to teach kids
• The very best way to teach children is to lead by example but for a hands on experience
we did an activity to reinforce the lesson
• Children started the activity by fan folding the paper, and they cut the paper dolls by
cutting out the body shape, leaving the arms connected by the fold
• We explained children how people are all the same on the inside. We added hearts to
each person. Children took turns drawing the skin, hair and eye color and coloring the
dolls
• Children loved the end result of 4 unique looking people connected to each other on one
side and 4 connected hearts on the other
• We learnt that celebrating our differences and connecting to our similarities is very
important

“O people, We have created you male and

female and made you nations and tribes that
you may know one another. Verily, the most
noble of you to Allah is the most righteous of
you. Verily, Allah is knowing and aware”.
Surat Al-Hujurat 49:13
