General Instructions:
i. This question paper consists of 39 questions in 5 sections.
ii. All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is provided in some questions. A
student is expected to attempt only one of these questions.
iii. Section A consists of 20 objective type questions carrying 1 mark each.
iv. Section B consists of 6 Very Short questions carrying 02 marks each. Answers to these
questions should in the range of 30 to 50 words.
v. Section C consists of 7 Short Answer type questions carrying 03 marks each. Answers to
thesequestions should in the range of 50 to 80 words
vi. Section D consists of 3 Long Answer type questions carrying 05 marks each. Answer to
thesequestions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
vii. Section E consists of 3 source-based/case-based units of assessment of 04 marks each with sub-
parts.

31. The image of an object formed by the lens is real, inverted and of the same size as the object. If the

formula C2H4O2. This compound reacts with ethanol to form a sweet smelling compound B.

36. a) An electric lamp of resistance 100 Ohm, a toaster of resistance 50 Ohm and a water filter of
resistance 500 Ohm are connected in parallel to a 220 V source. What is the resistance of an
electric iron connected to the same source that takes as much current as all three appliances
and what is the current through it?
b) Why are the conductors of electric toasters and electric irons made of an alloy rather than a
pure metal?

37. Sex of an individual is determined by different factors in various species. Some animals rely entirely
on the environmental cues, while in some other animals the individuals can change their sex during
their life time indicating that sex of some species is not genetically determined. However, in human
beings, the sex of an individual is largely determined genetically.
a) What is the statistical probability of getting either a male child or a female child?
b) Write the number of pair/ pairs of sex chromosomes present in human beings. In which one of
the parent (male/ female) perfect pair/ pairs of sex chromosomes are present?
c) Citing two examples, justify the statement “Sex of an individual is not always determined

38. A transparent substance in which light travels is known as a medium. Air, glass, water, kerosene,
alcohol ,etc are all examples of medium. Different media are set to have different optical densities.
A medium in which the speed of light is more is known as optically rarer medium. Air is an
optically rarer medium as compared to glass and water. A medium in which the speed of light is
less is known as optically denser medium. Glass is an optically denser medium than air and water.
In comparing to media, the one with larger refractive index is optically denser medium than the
other. The other medium of lower refractive index is optically rarer.
a) Trace the path of light through a rectangular glass slab when light incident obliquely on one of its
interface. Also label angle of incidence, angle of refraction and emergence.
b) Why does the sky appear dark instead of blue to an Astronaut?
c) Two triangular glass prisms are kept together connected through their rectangular side. A light
beam is passed through one side of the combination. Will there be any dispersion? Justify your
answer.

39. It is very interesting to note that our stomach produces HCl. It helps in the digestion of food. During
indigestion the stomach produces too much acid and this causes pain and irritation. To get rid of this
pain, people use antacids. Milk of magnesia is one such example. Similarly, a compound ‘X’ of
Sodium is used as an antacid and it decomposes on strong heating
