Waterdeep Trading Company Project Configuring the Localizations for Faerûn
Preface
I have been reviving an old project that started a while ago and has started up a new project blog to
track the progress. Being a lifelong fan of Dungeons & Dragons, with the unfortunate problem that I
cannot find anyone to play with I have decided to create a test implementation Dynamics 365 in the
AD&D format just to see how it would work and if I can find some creative ways to use Dynamics 365
and chose to implement the Waterdeep Trading Company as an example where I can track their many
legal (and not so legal) entities within Faerûn.

Introduction
Faerûn has several local nuances that we will need to support in order to get everything up and running
smoothly for the Waterdeep Trading Company, including address information for the region, and the
tracking of the Faerûn currencies of gold, silver, copper, electrum and platinum denominations. Not to
mention the numerous local languages that need to be supported.
Unfortunately, Faerûn is not one of the officially supported regions for Dynamics 365 for Finance and
Operations. Although we have submitted numerous support requests for a localization pack to be
officially delivered for Faerûn since we think that it is an up and coming marketplace, we have not seen
any official roadmaps where this is a planned deliverable.
Don’t worry though; we will show you how to set up the required localizations yourself so that we don’t
have to wait for the localization packs to be developed and delivered with the standard product.
Configuring the Faerûn

Address Details
The first thing that we will work on is the configuration of the addresses within Dynamics 365 to include
the Faerûn locations.

As you can see here, there is a little bit of address information that is missing from the system that we
will need to configure.
Configuring the Faerûn country code

To get things moving, the minimum address information that we will need to set up is the country code
for Faerûn.
So let’s start setting up the country information within Dynamics 365.

Opening the Address Setup form

To add a new Country code to Dynamics 365 we will need to add it within the Address setup in the
system.
In order to do this, we will need to access the Address setup form within the system.
How to do it…
Step 1: Open the Address setup form Type in address into the menu search and
through the menu search select Address setup.
We can find the Address setup form is through

We can do this by clicking on the search icon in the header of the form (or by pressing ALT+G) and then
type in the address into the search box. Then you will be able to select the Address setup form from the
dropdown list.

components.
Adding a new Faerûn country code

Now we will want to add a new Country code for Faerûn that we will be able to use in our addresses in
the system.

We will want to start off by switching to the Next, we will add a Short name for our new

This will show us all of the existing country codes that are set up by default in the system.

Finally, we will want to select the Address format that we will want to use for the country.
To do this, we will just need to pick the Address format value from the dropdown list.
This time, we will want to click on the Address format dropdown list and pick 0001.
This address format will have the Street, City, State, Postal Code, and the Country in the format. This
should work for the addresses within Faerûn.

After we have set up the new Country code, we are done.

Now that we have our country code defined for Faerûn we can move onto the next step and set up all
the realms within Faerûn.

After we have done that, we will see that there are no states or provinces defined for Faerûn, so we will
start adding in a few.

To do this all we need to do is click on the New button, change the State value and update the
Description value.
This time, we will want to set the State to WH and set the Description to Western Heartlands.

Now we have all the Faerûn states configured in the address details. We could add some of the other
countries within the Forgotten Realms we like, but the Waterdeep Trading Company probably won’t
expand out to sell to the Underdark, Aglarond, or any other country for now so we will hold off for now.
Adding the Faerûn cities

Now that we have the states configured for Faerûn, we will go one step further and also configure some
of the main cities that we will be selling to here at the Waterdeep Trading Company.
This will save us time in typing in the cities and also allow us to use the cities later on for shipping
information and estimating the cost of Dragon fright vs. the old-fashioned cart,

We will add a few more cities the same way and continue to add Baldur’s Gate.

value and change the State value.

set the State to SC.

We can continue adding more cities if we like, but for now, we will just stick with a couple of cities.
Later on, as the Waterdeep Trading Company gets more popular, we can add additional destination
cities.

Now we have at least the bare bones of the address information for Faerûn that we can start using in
the system.
Summary
How easy was that? Our first piece of localization for Faerûn is done and in the bag. We can now create
addresses for Faerûn.
Configuring the Faerûn

currencies
The Faerûn currency is straightforward, and we at the Waterdeep Trading Company want to take it all,
and not a copper piece less.
The problem is that Dynamics 365 is not set up to track gold, silver, copper, electrum or even platinum
coins. Let alone convert between the denominations.
So that means that we will need to set up the Faerûn currencies within Dynamics 365 and set up the
exchange rated between the coinage.
This will allow us to convert all the different coins back to our gold piece standard that we are using to
track all of our financials.

Codes
To start off we will need to do a little bit of maintenance within the ISO coding of the system. Out of the
box, Dynamics is missing the ISO Currency codes for Gold Pieces, Silver Pieces, Copper Pieces, Electrum
Pieces, and Platinum Pieces.
This is a small setup oversight, but it’s not a problem because we will just add the ISO Currency Codes to
the system ourselves.

To do this we will need to access the ISO Currency Codes maintenance form. Unfortunately, this is one
of the standard system tables, and there isn’t a standard menu item for this table.
Don’t worry; we will just go straight to the table and maintain the data in the table itself.
How to do it…

We will start off by accessing the URL bar within

To do this, we will want to use the System Table Browser function to view all the records in the ISO
Currency Code table.

This will open up the table browser, and we will see all f the default currency codes and the ISO code for
them.

Now that we can see all the ICO Currency Codes, we will want to add some new ones for the Faerûn
coinage and the denominations.

We will start off by just adding a new record We will give our new record a currency code to

For those of you that are not familiar with the Faerûn currencies, it’s pretty simple – there are five main
currencies that people have in their money pouches – gp (gold pieces), ep (electrum pieces), sp (silver
pieces), cp (copper pieces) and pp (platinum pieces) – and converting them is very straightforward as
well. 1 gp = 2 ep = 10 sp = 50 cp = 1/5 pp

To do this just select the From currency value from the dropdown list.
For this example, we will want to click on the From currency dropdown list and pick FEP.


To do this, we will just need to select the To currency option from the dropdown list.
For this example, we will want to click on the To currency dropdown list and pick FSP.


Now we will add a new exchange rate record.


And we can then set the exchange rate between FEP and FSP.
To do this just change the Exchange rate value.
FEP.


Only two more conversions to configure.
Let’s set up the exchange rate between FEP and FCP.


We will want to select the From currency code.
To do this just pick the From currency option from the dropdown list.
For this example, we will want to click on the From currency dropdown list and pick FEP.


To do this just select the To currency value from the dropdown list.
This time, we will want to click on the To currency dropdown list and select FCP.


Now add a new Exchange rate record for the currency combination.


Now we can specify the exchange rate between FEP and FCP.
To do this just update the Exchange rate value.
FEP.


We are on the home stretch now. We have all the currency conversions defined except for the FSP and
FCP combinations.
So let’s define the exchange rate between FSP and FCP.


We will select the From currency from the list of ISO currency codes.
To do this just pick the From currency value from the dropdown list.
This time, we will want to click on the From currency dropdown list and pick FSP.


This time, we will want to click on the To currency dropdown list and pick FCP.


Now we will create an exchange rate conversion record for the two currencies.


And we will be able to specify the exchange rate between FSP and FCP then.
FSP.
Review
You are now done. We have defined all the different conversion rates that we need to manage the
different coinage that is used within Faerûn. No more having to convert FCP to FEP in our head
anymore, the system will do all this for us.
Summary
Congratulations. You have now set up the main localizations that we will need to do business in Faerûn.
We have our address information configured to allow us to locate our customers and vendors and we
have set up the new currency codes that we will need to track in order to do business in Faerûn.
Now we can start getting down to business and start setting up the Waterdeep Trading Company within
Dynamics 365.

So let’s start setting up the country information within Dynamics 365.

Select the Country/region tab. Set the Short name to Faerûn.

Click on the New button. Set the Long name to Faerûn.
