MIDTERM ASSIGNMENT 4

1. Temperature
When it comes to temperature, sound tends to travel way faster in a warm
temperature than in a cold temperature. The best solution to minimize the bending of
sound that occurs during the day or night is having a Thermal and Acoustics
Insulation.
Through Thermal and Acoustics Insulation, It is possible to reduce the heat
whilst, reducing the reverberation time of sound at the same time. Installing materials like
fiberglass insulation will help in reducing the heat in a particular space and it is also an
effective acoustical insulation which can lessen noises.

2. Wind
When sound waves travel in the same direction as the wind there is a possibility
that sounds coming from it will be refracted on the surface. On the other hand, if sound
waves travel against the direction of wind it will be refracted far away from the source.
Therefore, Installing sound barriers from the outside location of the receiver could be
the possible solution to lessen the noise coming from the source.
Sound barriers are effective in reducing noise-traffic coming from different
sources to the receiver. Calculating the exact amount for the barrier height as well as the
materials that will be used to it will play a huge role in lessening the noise. As the sound
waves hit the barrier it can actually reflected back from the opposite direction of it
resulting a less amount of diffracted noise coming to the receiver
3. Cloud and Rains
The Philippines is one of the few countries that is included as a tropical country,
which means it is expected that there will be a season when heavy rains are coming.
One of the best solutions for this kind of factor are installing some soundproofing metal
roofs or even insulating the ceiling part of the building.
Using various insulation sheets like rockwool, fiberglass or other soundproofing
material might actually lessen the noise coming from roofs. Afterwards, installing
insulation for the top ceiling, which is near the roof, can also reduce the impact of noise
coming from rains, or other things that will hit the roof. Materials like ceiling tiles can
actually help to lessen the noise coming front the roof as well.

4. Bodies of Water

Planting trees can actually help in reducing the noise effects. It is proven that when
a sound wave travels through different vegetative barriers, such as trees, plants, bushes etc., it
is definitely possible that refraction of sound waves will bend around the plants. The parts of
trees like leaves, branches, stems at its body can absorb sound and even attenuate sounds by
obstructing it as well as change its behaviour. The fact that Trees can not just make our life
more quality but it can also reduce the amount of noise pollution by 10 db. Is already a big help
for our community.
Installing Wall Barriers between the bodies of water to the receiver can also help in
reducing the noise effect from the source.
