12-1 Using Commas 

In Unit 7, you learned three rules for using a comma. Here are four more rules:

Adding and Interrupting

We use commas to add extra words, phrases or clauses into the middle, or at the end, of a sentence.

Space travel, however, is going to be as normal as ying in an airplane.

You didn't like the ending of the movie, did you?

Dates

We use commas between information in dates.

Humans rst landed on the moon on July 20, 1969.



Addresses

We use commas between information in an address.

Please send the package to 1725 Arbutus Street, Vancouver, British Columbia.

Quotes

We use commas with quotation marks in direct speech.

He said, "This is going to be a great year."

"Wait here," he said to the children, "and don't touch anything."
