Bathroom

1) Regulate water temperature- It is important to

regulate the water temperature as scalding can be a
hazard for elderly people who may have sensory
impairments. Due to being frail and weak they are
vulnerable to incidents and cannot move as quickly.

2) Install grab rails - Installing grab rails is important

because if they have a poor balance then they will need
help in movement. Grab rails are an important part of
the bathroom especially for an elderly who is prone to
incidents. If they have good upper body strength then
the grab rails will help them in maintaining a proper
hygiene themselves.

3) Consider a shower chair-If the elderly enjoys a

bath but is unable to get in and out safely, you can
install a bath lift to help them access the tub without
risk of falling.

4) Guard against slips- In elderly care facilities, toilet

seats are often raised because so many older people
have difficulty in lowering themselves down to sit on a
toilet seat at the traditional height. So it would be
efficient to have the seat raised at least 3-4 inches
higher.

5) Install a raised toilet seat- In elderly care facilities,

toilet seats are often raised because so many older
people have difficulty in lowering themselves down to
sit on a toilet seat at the traditional height. So it would
be efficient to have the seat raised at least 3-4 inches
higher.

6) Change doors and lighting- Lighting and doors

can also have an impact on bathroom safety.
Inadequate lighting can contribute to falls if visibility
is poor, so make sure the bathroom is well lighting.

7) Make sure there is efficient space for movement.

Grooming

1) Nail care- prevent germs from collecting

underneath the senior nails by cleaning and filling nails
time to time.

2) Shaving- shaving or not shaving facial hair,

underarm hair or leg hair are personal choices, ones
that may be influenced by cultural norms. Teaching
seniors to handle instruments for shaving, when using
electric razor, emphasize the importance of keeping the
tool away from water.

3) Bathing- bathing two or three times per week,

rather than on a daily basis, is often sufficient to ensure
seniors body remain clean. In order to have safety, it is
necessary to include grab bars, shower hose and a
shower chair in the event the senior becomes tired.

4) Skin care- skin care in the elderly is important

since aging skin is fragile and prone to irritation.
Pamper dry skin with a fragrance-free moisturizer.
Blisters, sores and other irritation should prompt
medical attention.

Dressing

1) As with grooming its important for aged care

worker to give a certain level of independence to care
recipient. And this independence will be based on the
senior capability.

2) For example, present the two to three outfits

through which the senior can choose to wear.

3) Due to some these activities the patient can use

his mind its healthy for them.

4) Due to this activity the seniors with dementia

can make decision very well.

5) They activity give him sense of control.

6) Care giver should use simple dresses that is easy

to wear.
