Introduction
Global citizenship refers to the notion that we all share a common humanity
and that we have a responsibility to protect and promote the well-being of all people and
the planet as a whole. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected and global
issues such as climate change, poverty, and inequality continue to persist, the
importance of global citizenship has only grown. By embracing a global perspective and
recognizing our interconnectedness, we can work together to address these challenges
and create a more just and sustainable world for all. Ultimately, global citizenship is
about recognizing our shared responsibility and taking action to create positive change
both locally and globally.

II. Discussion of the topic

Global Citizenship

Citizenship is the expression of a public identity. It is the recognition of an

official position by a government and the ability to enjoy the rights and privileges
following from that position by an individual.
The idea of "global citizenship" is that people have a duty to actively
participate in and contribute to the world around them, beyond their local communities
and national boundaries. Regardless of our location, we face a common destiny (at
least in the mid-term or long term); where the unfolding of an event in one part of the
world affects lives in other parts (Lim, 2007). It is the notion that as citizens of this
planet, we all belong to a single, interconnected global community and share a shared
fate.
According to Israel, The other citizenship identities you currently hold do not
have to be abandoned in order to become a global citizen (2015). Recognizing and
honoring cultural variety and distinctions, supporting social and environmental justice,
and actively contributing to local, national, and international change-making initiatives
are all aspects of global citizenship. Being a global citizen simply implies that you have
an additional layer of identity (Israel, 2015).

Being a global citizen entails having an accepting, open-minded, and

sympathetic attitude toward individuals from other cultures and backgrounds as well as
a dedication to advancing the welfare of all people around the world. It is about realizing
that each of our individual actions and choices may significantly affect the world in
which we live and about utilizing our privilege and resources to affect positive change.
Principles of Global Citizenship

Understanding Cultural Diversity

According to Israel, The multiple perspectives that exist with most global
issues often are a reflection of different cultural belief systems (2015). Global citizens
must to recognize the significance of many viewpoints and ways of life while also
understanding and appreciating cultural variety. We may learn from each of our major
cultural belief systems as we look for answers to the problems the world faces today.
Also, it must be able to interact respectfully and efficiently with individuals from various
cultural backgrounds. Studies show that children who are exposed to a more diverse
community are more creative and tolerant of differences (Writer, 2020). Understanding
different cultures helps us realize that, in contrast to our individual tribal or national
performances, we can accomplish more as a group if we set aside our differences and
concentrate on our shared values and strengths. This is because the whole is always
greater than the sum of its parts (Gabriel, 2019).

Taking Action on Global Issues

Global citizens have a duty to understand the major world issues that affect
them personally (Israel, 2015). Acting on global issues is a fundamental tenet of global
citizenship because it recognizes the interdependence of all nations and each
individual's responsibility to improve humanity. Global issues such as poverty, climate
change, and violations of human rights transcend national boundaries and necessitate a
collective response. Global difficulties come from society's objective growth, pose
threats to all of humanity, and require the international community to work together in
concert to resolve them (Johnson,2018).Global citizens have the responsibility to
advocate for having their countries ratify and implement the global agreements,
conventions, and treaties that they have signed.

Promoting Sustainability
Sustainability, according to Mollenkamp, is the capacity to constantly support
or maintain a process across time (2022). Global citizens should be committed to
furthering sustainability, which includes making efforts to reduce their carbon footprint,
supporting renewable energy sources, and adopting environmental protection
regulations. Global citizenship and sustainability require acknowledging multiple
worldviews and perspectives in order to deal with the many political, environmental,
social, and economic issues that are necessary to live sustainably in today's
interconnected and interdependent world. Future sustainability is crucial. Human
commerce, daily life, and existence depend on natural resources. Neglecting
sustainability could result in the depletion of natural resources (Dittman, 2019). Because
to new technologies and the development of more conventional cleaner fuel sources,
many people are now considering a world without fossil fuels, even though it is still
unclear how our sustainable future will look (Mason, 2019).

Fostering Global Cooperation

With a set of norms, common values, and institutions, global collaboration in
the years following World War II has resulted in significant economic and social
advancement, rescuing millions of people from absolute poverty (Gaspar, Hagan,
Obstfeld, 2018). Global citizens should be mindful of the reality that many global issues
require for international cooperation and should be motivated to engage with others in
order to attain shared objectives. This may be lending support to international
organizations, taking part in international projects, or working with individuals from other
nations.

Respecting Human Rights

According to Israel, The International Declaration of Human Rights, first drafted in 1948
following World War II, contains the rights of all peoples, and its fundamental principles
of individual liberty, equality, and equity have not changed. But, as the political,
economic, and social fabric of society evolves over time, so do the ways in which
human rights are applied. Additionally, additional rights that were not included in the
1948 human rights agenda have evolved, such as those for LGBT people, the
environment, and internet access. Some claim that the demand for an updated
Universal Declaration of Human Rights is being driven by the emergence of new rights
and shifting political structures (2015). Citizens of the world should be dedicated to
advancing human rights and treating everyone with respect and decency. This includes
promoting equal rights and opportunities, aiding marginalized groups, and combating
injustice and discrimination.

The idea of global citizenship is one that is increasingly important in today's

linked society. It covers the notion that our choices and actions affect not only our
immediate surroundings but also the entire world. As individuals, it is our duty to
understand how we fit into the larger community and to act in ways that benefit both the
world and its inhabitants. We may fight to make the world for everyone more just,
sustainable, and egalitarian by embracing the principles of global citizenship.

Although the idea of global citizenship has grown in popularity and significance over the

Political barriers, Corporate power.
