PARABLES are short stories

with deep morals or lessons

that are used for easier
comparison.
This is used to teach a
religious principle and truth.
In the chatbox, answer this question in 3 mins:
In order for Jesus to speak about
the abstract idea of the Kingdom, He
would tell his disciples short
parables. He would do this to
simplify their idea through
analogies (capacity to analyze things).
Jesus uses parables to
show the people the
image of the Kingdom of
Heaven.
THREE PARABLES THAT WE WILL
FOCUS ON FOR THIS WEEK:
1. Parable of the Mustard Seed
2. Parable of the Buried treasure and
the Pearl of Great Price
3. Parable of the Net
Parable of the Mustard Seed

Jesus put another parable before them saying:

“The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed
that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest
of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all
the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds
of the air come and make nests in its branches.” He told
them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like
leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of
flour, till it was all leavened.”
Parable of the Mustard Seed
Points of the Parables:
• The Kingdom of God starts from
small beginnings but grows into a
very much bigger proportion
• The Church started with just 12 fine
men whom Jesus called apostle
• The Catholic Church is 2/3 of the
population today
• 1 Billion Catholics
• Everything starts small but if
cultivated, it becomes big

THE PARABLES OF THE BURIED TREASURE AND
THE PEARL OF GREAT PRICE

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in

a field, which a man found and covered up. Then
in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys
that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a
merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding
one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he
had and bought it."
THE PARABLES OF THE BURIED TREASURE AND
THE PEARL OF GREAT PRICE
• The treasure and the pearl of great price
is a perfect symbol for the Kingdom of
Heaven
• God's Kingdom is above and beyond any
earthly price
• It comes in ordinary ways but is changed
to be something extra-ordinary
• Once we recognize the treasures given
by God we will surely appreciate more
than anything else
• We can leave anything behind just to
have it

ST. JOHN BAPTIST de LA SALLE

So as Lasallians you are

pushed to acquire earthly
goods someday but with
special emphasis on the
idea that we must
prepare ourselves for the
perfection of these gifts in
the life to come.
ST. JOHN BAPTIST de LA SALLE

Earthly goods are just

temporary. We should
have the readiness to turn
our backs from these
earthly wealth and reach
heaven.

THE PARABLE OF THE NET

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that

was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every
kind. When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat
down and sorted the good into containers but
threw away the bad. So it will be at the end of the
age."
The Parable of the Net

the Kingdom of Heaven is

presented in the realm of the final
days or the judgement day where
those who followed the will of
God will inherit eternal life. As
Christians, our final goal is to
attain everlasting life.
The Parable of the Net

In the Bible, judgement day is

clearly presented through
symbolic ideas in the Book of
Revelations.
The Parable of the Net

It is a fact that there will come a

time in our lives where God would
be judging us depending on how
we live out our lives. Judgement
day should not be seen as a day of
terror because if we belong to
Christ, nothing bad or negative
will ever happen to us.
TWO KINDS OF JUDGEMENT IN THE END OF
TIMES:
Particular Judgement Common Judgement
where we will be where we will be judged and
separated as we separate the
judged by God as an sheep from the goat, old and
individual the new, sweet from bitter.
Those who will be judged as
evil will be thrown into
eternal damnation.
The Catholic Church teaches us:
1. The Kingdom of God is a gift and a task
üGod’s kingdom is freely given to us
üWe are to acknowledge the gift and respond to it actively
üWe must search for it and have to change ourselves by
having a change of mind and heart (conversion/metanoia),
to be less self-centered, to sacrifice things for the Kingdom
of God and reject whatever hinders it, use our talents for
the Kingdom of God
The Catholic Church teaches us:
2. The Kingdom of God is already here
but not fully realized
üJesus already presented the Kingdom of God so this is already present in
the human history
üThis is identifiable through the norms of Christ
üThe Church nor the society cannot identify the Kingdom of God
üThe Church is the Kingdom of God in the process we ask God to dwell in
us for the Kingdom of God to be attained
