ABSTRACT (ENGLISH)
William Wright letter on Bernard Dick's October 13 letter about Nora Ephron's play Imaginary Friends, which
included quote from Wright's biography of Lillian Hellman

FULL TEXT
To the Editor:
Anyone reading Bernard Dick's letter [Oct. 13] about Nora Ephron's play ''Imaginary Friends'' might assume that in
my biography of Lillian Hellman, I said that Hellman ''trembled'' when challenged by Mary McCarthy. If Mr. Dick is
hinting that the image is hard to swallow, I can only agree -- and rush to say that the word was McCarthy's, not mine.
While I know it is the rankest impertinence to correct the word choice of Mary McCarthy, I suspect that ''visibly
agitated'' would be closer to the truth.
