FULL TEXT
To the Editor:
Anyone reading Bernard Dick's letter [Oct. 13] about Nora Ephron's play ''Imaginary Friends'' might assume that in
my biography of Lillian Hellman, I said that Hellman ''trembled'' when challenged by Mary McCarthy. If Mr. Dick is
hinting that the image is hard to swallow, I can only agree -- and rush to say that the word was McCarthy's, not mine.
While I know it is the rankest impertinence to correct the word choice of Mary McCarthy, I suspect that ''visibly
agitated'' would be closer to the truth.
