Risk Assessment
What is risk assessment?

Risk assessment is the process of evaluating the risks


to workers safety and health from workplace hazards

It is a systematic examination of all aspects of work,


It considers:-

• What could cause injury or harm


• Could the hazards be eliminated
• What preventive or protective measures ,
are or should be in place to control the risk
‘Definitions’
A Hazard:-

Anything that has the Potential to cause


Harm
Risk:-

Likelihood/Probability
of a specified undesired
event occurring
e.g., A nail protruding from a piece of timber
Risk Assessment
Key Questions:-
• Can I get to my workplace safely
• Can I work there safely
• What is the level of risk
• Who is exposed to risk
• What can I do to make it safer

Note: Look at your workplace and


ask yourself,
What can cause harm?

Identify the hazard:
Where can people come to harm?
• A Fall
• Falling objects

Assess the risk : What is the level of risk?


e.g., Low, Medium or High

How can you make it safer?
