Using a Video Card to Troubleshoot a SIP

Affected product versions:
• iU22/iE33 Dual Mother Boards (Carts A, B, or C)

NOTE: Jaton no longer manufactures these boards and we have been unable to
find a suitable replacement video card that can be stocked. These COTS
components change so frequently that we are not able to validate and stock them
before they are no longer available on the market. The following procedure can
still be used if the FSE currently has the correct video card, or is able to obtain a
suitable replacement locally. However, the factory will not be able to provide this
card to the field.

1. Summary
To troubleshoot SIP hangs/failures it may be necessary to install a video card onto the SIP
motherboard. The following procedure details how to properly install a video card to the SIP
motherboard, connect the main display to the SIP, and to connect a keyboard and mouse if
user input is necessary on the SIP.

2. Procedure
1. Obtain 1 of each of the following:
• Jaton Video- 198PCI-64Twin video card or the Jaton Video-198PCI-64TV or a
local equivalent.
• keyboard.
• mouse.
Note: This is the only tested configuration, if you attempt to use a video card other than the
one listed, there is no guarantee that the system will function properly.
2. Power down the ultrasound system and unplug all devices from the AVIO-RIP, remove
the back panel plastic cover / metal shield and unscrew the SIP assembly slide out screw.
3. Slide the SIP assembly out as far as possible and insert the Jaton Video-198PCI-64Twin
video card into one of the open PCI slots on the SIP motherboard. Ensure the card is
seated properly and is secure.
4. Connect the primary video cable from the AVIO-RIP into the Jaton Video-198PCI-
64Twin video card output connector and verify the SIP is shown on the main display. The
SIP display will show a command window stating that it is waiting for the Host to
initialize if the SIP powered up correctly.

5. If necessary, connect a keyboard and mouse.
6. When finished observing the SIP’s status power down the system, unplug the primary
video from the Jaton Video-198PCI-64Twin video card along with the keyboard and
mouse. The video card cannot be left in the system!
7. Reinsert the metal shield and screw into place, along with the plastic cover. Plug all of
the devices back in and verify the system boots properly and the main display is correct.
