Instructions for Sight-Reading Study

Thank you for taking part in my MA Thesis! The study will begin with a
rhythm test using the settings shown below at
https://www.therhythmtrainer.com

Those choosing to take Level 1 (Approximately Grade 2) will use the first
settings, and those taking Level 2 (Approximately Grade 4) will use the second.
When completing the exercises only use the play rhythm feature a maximum of
3 times per exercise, when you have completed 10 exercises, please make a note
of your scores and then use the sight-reading resources provided, as you usually
would, for 8 weeks. At the end of the 6 weeks, use the rhythm test again and
please forward your scores to me.

N.B – If a student’s score on Level 1 is 10, please attempt Level 2 so the study
can observe any meaningful change, the student may also attempt some of the
simpler Level 2 resources and, if too complex, allow more preparation time than
usual or play the hands separately. If this is the case, please let me know in our
email correspondence so I can discuss this when writing up the study.

Throughout the study feel free to email me if there are any concerns, and at the
end if you are willing to discuss how you found the study/fill out a short
questionnaire, I would be happy to offer a 20-minute sight-reading lesson over
zoom to compensate you for your time.
