1. How do you understand in your own words the connection of the following basic underlying
principles to Special Education:

a. Right to Education: The right to education is an essential human right that is universally
recognized. It underlines that every individual, including those with impairments, has an
equal right to a good education. This principle ensures that students with disabilities are
not denied an education because of their condition, but rather are provided appropriate
and inclusive educational opportunities customized to their unique requirements in the
case of special education. It advocates for inclusive education systems that accept
different learning styles and skills, allowing students with disabilities to achieve their full
potential.

b. Right to Equality of Opportunity: The right to equality of opportunity indicates that all
individuals should have fair and equal opportunities to access education and achieve
their goals without discrimination or difficulties. When applied to special education, this
idea asserts that students with disabilities should have the same opportunity to get an
education and develop their talents as other people without conditions. It asks for the
end of all forms of discrimination and exclusion in educational settings, as well as the
provision of necessary support services and accommodations to allow students with
disabilities to fully engage in educational activities.

c. Right to Participate in Society: The right to participate in society emphasizes the

importance of all individuals’ inclusion and active participation in social, cultural, and
civic life. This principle emphasizes that children with disabilities have the right to be
included in educational and social situations alongside those who are not disabled in the
context of special education. It highlights the importance of developing inclusive school
environments that encourage social interactions, create positive relationships, and allow
for active engagement in other interests and community life. Special education seeks to
provide individuals with disabilities with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they
need to actively engage in society, contribute to their communities, and live fulfilling
lives by protecting this right. Overall, these basic concepts highlight the importance of
inclusive education, fair opportunity, and active engagement for children.

2. Can special education advance alone without inclusive education, YES or NO, and why?

No, without inclusive education, special education cannot progress fully. Inclusive
education encourages equal chance and unique relationships, which benefits both
students with special needs and those who do not. It promotes comprehension,
empathy, and improved teaching practices, resulting in overall educational growth for
everybody.
