Ways to Manage Stress

According to the video, stress is defined as innate to human life. We humans experience stress
due to some internal and external factors, and these factors include but are not limited to
work/job, physical and mental stress, poor management, traumatic events, and numerous
causes that may lead to stress. However, stress can be managed with various strategies and/or
techniques such as breathing, exercise, proper nutrition, communication, relaxation techniques,
rest, and many more. As stated by Brian Clancy, a positive mental attitude is simply a positive
reaction to stress, meaning having a positive mental attitude will help reduce stress.

It is important to learn to manage your stress. It can help you physically and mentally to be
resilient and help you to perform well. Poor management of stress may lead to serious health
problems such as depression, anxiety, and muscle tension and pain. In the video, we can learn
varieties of stress management. And the technique that resonates with me is “Exercise”, as for
me being active helps me relieve those stress and helps to learn to think positively and focus.
Moreover, being active improves my self-esteem and makes me feel good about myself.

In the situation, where a friend of mine is struggling with stress and ask for some advise on how
to deal with it. First thing I would do before giving him/her any strategy in dealing with stress is
to identify the cause of his/her stress. From here I would be able to provide my insights on how
he/she should handle stress through varieties of strategies mentioned above. A great example
is to take a break, stop on what your doing and take a good rest. After that, reorganized your
self by setting goals and practice time management especially when an individual has a hectic
job, this way he/she can deal with the stress and reduced it.

The ability to effectively manage stress may significantly enhance our general wellbeing and
quality of life. We can’t avoid stress as this is part of human nature, all we need to do is
effectively deal with it using these strategies to cope with the impact. Keep in mind that
everyone is distinctive, so it would be useful for the individual to evaluate multiple strategies to
see which ones work most efficiently for them.
