INTRODUCTION TO
STATISTICS
Statistics is the study and manipulation of data, including ways to gather,
review, analyse, and draw conclusions from data. The two major areas of
statistics are descriptive and inferential statistics.
STATISTICS is a branch of mathematics that is used by everyone on regular
bases; may it be banks, news, schools, stock market or even a record of
household expenses.
For different stages of analysis different branches of statistics is used:

Descriptive Statistics
Descriptive statistics mostly focus on the central tendency, variability, and
distribution of sample data. Central tendency means the estimate of the
characteristics, a typical element of a sample or population. It includes
descriptive statistics such as mean, median and mode. This is usually the
first part of statistical analysis.

This part of statistics is more of calculations and graphical in nature so that

the information can be further evaluated.

Inferential Statistics
Inferential statistics are tools that statisticians use to draw conclusions
about the calculated and evaluated data, thus the name “inferential.”

This part of statistics analyses larger groups of information and draws

conclusions that will be further used to prove logic and theory.
