instructions
Thanks for downloading this paper kit from WargamesVault or directly from
my website, the Grinning Skull. To construct these items for your project,
just follow these simple instructions below to get started.
First you’ll need to print out the two sheets of books, scrolls and maps towards
the back of this PDF on your printer, then refer to these instructions.

Closed Books
After you’ve printed the sheets, take the
closed book covers and carefully cut them
out. A good tip here is to make a lot at
once to save time later, although this is up
to you.
Next, take a strip of white EVA fun foam
or flattened styrofoam drinks cup and fold
and PVA glue the book covers to it, then
leave to dry.

When dry, cut out and trim each book

to the desired effect to create your closed
books. make sure you don’t trim the spine
just the top, bottom and if you need to,
the side to reveal the foam so it appears
that the books have now white pages.

You can now take your books and place them on your
models as you wish. To vary the thickness of the books
you can use a double layer of foam on the inside.
If you don’t have access to fun foam or styrofoam,
you can use thick card or glue several layers of thick
paper or white card together.

Use them by adding them to tables, bookshelves,

miniature bases or whatever you desire to add another
level of detail to your models and dioramas.

Opening Books
Cut out the strips that will form the opening
books from your printed sheets. Trim them
to the correct size before proceeding to the
next step. Have your PVA glue on hand.
This time you won’t need any fun foam
or styrofoam. All you need is the printouts.

Carefully fold the strip along the pages

to form a concertina towards the front
and back cover. Make sure you start at
the cover folding each page onto itself
otherwise you might make a mistake.

Next, spread a thin layer of PVA glue (or use a

glue stick if your prefer) and carefully fold the
strip back up to create the pages. When the pages
are glued, carefully fold over the front and back
cover on the strip. Make sure you line all the edges
up and they all align up.

Glue the cover to the first page and line it up. Make sure as it’s
drying that the glue doesn’t all stick the pages together, just
ensure that all the pages are separated and opens and closes
freely as it dries. When dried you can trim up the books to
eliminate any unsightly white edges from misalignment/

Your book is now complete, and you can add them to your
models as you wish. you can add other pages to the inside
of the books by cutting the single pages/scrolls out from the
top of the book sheet and glueing the individual pages in.
You can also glue the pages down at either side to form an
open book. The pages can also be varied by cutting down the
folds (remember each page is two folded parts of the strip.)

Scrolls
Take the sheet with the scrolls, and cut them out.
Screw up the piece then, carefully unfold it out again.
Then, roll it up to the desired scroll size. Affix with a
dab of PVA glue to keep the shape.

Next, take some coloured cotton and tie and bind

it around the middle of the scroll roll. A dab of
glue and a few knots will hold this firmly in place.
The scroll is now ready to use on your models.

Scrolls and odd pages can also be used as they

are on your models, stick them to tables, bases,
shelves, even walls as posters for decoration.

Maps
Maps are cut from the scroll sheet, crumpled up and
then can be either used as is, or rolled as per rolled
scrolls. They can be used also as wall poster maps if
you desire.

Tarot Cards
Tarot cards can be found on the scrolls sheet.
They can be backed onto card or, used as is
when cut from the sheet. Apply them as you
want to your models.

Comics
Comics are found on the bottom of the scroll sheet.
These are made the same way as the opening books.
You can also laminate the comics and books by
covering the front and back cover parts in a piece
of clear sticky tape. The covers can also be cut off
to form non opening versions exactly like the books.
