 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The project report titled “ A study on cross border merger and acquisition deal: Hamleys
acquired by Reliance Industries limited” examines the acquisition of Hamleys, a British
multinational toy retailer by Reliance Industries, a Mumbai based Indian company. The
report begins with a brief introduction to mergers and acquisition and their significance in the
global business landscape. It them provides an overview of Hamleys, Reliance Industries
Limited and Indian luxury retail sector of toys.
The next chapters includes Literature review briefing about published research in a specific
area of study, Research Methodology that includes descriptive research design and
exploratory research design also sources of data collection i.e., secondary data. Objectives of
the study is to analyse terms and structure of the deal, financial impact of the acquisition, Key
success factors or challenges faced during the deal and the motive behind the Hamleys-
Reliance Acquisition followed by the findings and conclusion on cross border mergers and
acquisition.
