My house
My name is Mary and two years ago I bought a nice house to live in on my holidays. I work in the museum
in London but I love to spend my holidays in the country, in the open air, near the sea.
I’m happy to have a house near the sea. It is rather far from London and I usually drive there for three
hours. It’s an old house, about 100 years old, and it’s very small but very clean and comfortable. There are two
bedrooms upstairs but no bathroom. The bathroom is downstairs next to the kitchen and there is a living-room
where there is a lovely old fire place. In the living-room there are eight very old pictures - portraits of the people
who lived in the house many years ago. Some of my friends are afraid of them. They think that these dead people
visit the house at night. But I don’t think so. I’m never afraid in my house, but always happy.
There is a garden in front of the house. the garden goes down to the sea and in spring and summer there
are flowers everywhere. Behind my house there are old apple trees and every autumn I have got a lot of nice red
apples. I often give them to my friends as birthday presents. They are really great!
I live alone with my dog, Rex, but we have a lot of visitors. My city friends come to see me very often and
we have a lot of fun together. They are always welcome! Every year we celebrate Halloween and Christmas there.
I love my house for many reasons: the garden, the flowers, the fire in the winter, but the best thing is the
sea-view from my bedroom window. I enjoy the sea.
