7 Cisco SD-WAN Configuration Management

Summary

With Cisco vManage templates, you can create feature templates that you can attach to any Cisco
SD-WAN device. The templates contain parameters that can be device-specific or global. The
template variable spreadsheet is an Excel CSV file that contains the device-specific values for
each device.

Feature templates are used for configuring parameters for a specific feature, such as system
settings, VPN, and VPN interfaces.

Configuration groups are logical groups of configurations for Cisco SD-WAN devices. They consist
of feature profiles that act as building blocks of configuration.

The configuration elements in a device include the system parameters, the transport and
management VPNs, and the service VPNs. System configuration is part of the basic information for
a device and includes site ID, system IP, and hostname. The transport and service VPN
parameters are used to configure the WAN connectivity and service routing features, respectively.

When a template has been created, it can be attached to a device. The Template Variable
Spreadsheet must be exported and edited with the device-specific parameter values and then
imported into the Cisco vManage. The devices attached to the template are then configured with
the global configuration parameters and the values for the device-specific parameters.

Devices may be associated with configuration groups. Once devices are associated, you may
deploy the configuration in the configuration groups to the devices.
